Unfortunately, there are lots of movies which needed Goldsmith more than he needed them.

It kind of surprises me how far away from the original poster's questions this has strayed. He did not ask which films Jerry's score "saved", nor did he ask about truly awful movies. He simply asked which mediocre film may have most benefited from a Goldsmith score. Yes, there is always going to be a difference of opinion on this matter, but I don't think ST:TMP , THE WIND AND THE LION and 13th WARRIOR among others mentioned here are mediocre, much less awful. ST:TMP is flawed but impressive, 13th WARRIOR an enjoyable action film, and WIND & LION is, imho, a really great film. INCHON and DAMNATION ALLEY are so bad that their scores are only good without the movie. Better fits are THE OMEN, PETER PROUD, or THE CHAIRMAN , which are ho-hum movies that are improved by great Goldsmith scores.

Interesting... I have always liked EXPLORERS. Admittedly, I love Goldsmith's score as well, it is another clear favorite of mine.. hard to separate the two. :-) I love it too - but it had a very, very tough production and it ended up getting cut up by the studio without the director or producer's supervision. Joe Dante is uncomfortable talking about the picture in much the same way David Lynch won't talk about Dune. Actually the problem wasn't that the studio took the edit away from Dante, it was that they stopped editing entirely. They got to a certain point and told him "This is your final cut, start creating the FX and music for it" 'cos they wanted to release it on a certain date.
