$17.80 each is "budget priced"?

$17.80 each is "budget priced"?

In Japan where a typical everyday release is somewhere around 3000 yen ($27.74 right now), it surely is.

* ALIENS by Horner, James

This title is sold out at Yesasia.com.
Did someone here order it or have listened to it? Is the DSD remastering noticeable?

I did an A/B comparison and my oh my does the new DSD remaster sound so much better. The old Varese CD sounds like a bootleg cassette tape, just lifeless. Really ecstatic with this CD. Definitely getting Aliens.

(quoted from Alan Silvestri's G.I.Joe thread)

Great! I made an order with T2, Aliens, Papillon and Dawn of the Dead...

I am also a bit curious about David Newman's Ice Age. The original Varèse CD mix is extremely loud.

Damn, it looks like the Aliens disc is OOP and not being carried by any major Japanese retailer like YesAsia, CDJapan, or ARK.

I got mine earlier this week (the last copy at Ark?). SalaciousAckbar, do not regret anything about Aliens: the difference in sound is barely noticeable. Dan Hersch already did an excellent job on the initial release. You could probably find some difference by comparing the sound files, but that's it.

I'm waiting for my T2 copy now smile

You cannot master in DSD! Bloody more misleading marketeering, and people seem to fall for it everytime!

You can archive in DSD format, but this is entirely different (and higher resolution) to the CD format. It has to be converted from DSD to PCM to be remastered, then converted from high-res PCM to the CD standard. So any DSD comes very early in the chain, at the tape transfer stages. There is no inherent advantage in doing this in DSD for the end result of a CD, unless one releases SACDs too.

Getting tired of labels jumping upon 'buzzword' bandwagons, just as much as those releasing 16-bit Cd 'masters' onto vinyl and claiming it has true vinyl sound quality.

Thank you for the warning. As you describe it, the "DSD-CD" thing is most certainly a commercial ploy frown
Nevertheless, the G.I. Joe and T2 reissues at least benefited from the remastering.
