I noticed this today that S.A.E. is offering up a re-issue (limited to 300) of 'Novecento', combined with another Morricone title to make a 2-disc set. I have that original 'Novecento' release and I certainly cherish it's near one hour of music, and I appreciate that this re-issue enables others to also find out how great this score is, if it's their first time. But for a film over 5 hours in length there's a lot of music not made available. It's been discussed before, but if the tapes are lost, damaged or not available, would this title not be a great choice for a complete 're-do' by that label that is the absolute 'miracle worker' for such causes?

I wholeheartedly agree. It is my #1 choice for a Morricone score that due to its poor sound quality most needs a rerecording. Let that brass finally shine as it should! I wouldn't even mind if it was just a re-do of the original album program.

P.S.: Very nice to see that the release you mention also includes the expanded Sacco & Vanzetti that had been out of print for a while, too.

Two great, great Morricone scores, with S&V being an all time favourite.

Imagine a Venn diagram with populations marked:

1. Everyone who doesn't already have both of these scores
2. Everyone who would open a thread with "Morricone" in the title
3. Anyone who doesn't have me on their ignore list

If you're in the overlapping area, I urge you to BUY THIS!

I don't know it has been mentioned before elsewhere but it seems GDM has just reissued this score on CD. Same content, and no mention of developed sound.

Finally landed 1900, thought it warranted an attempt at discussion.
I've never seen the film, come close, but never have the 27 hrs available when it emerges via Amazon prime to watch.

What's the overall consensus on the album?
Middling sound quality, and what's here is mostly dour business. Is the existing 50min. album just a peek at an epic score? Are we missing out or is this a good representation?
