I wonder if anyone can help, as I have a really stupid and ignorant question to ask.

Is it possible to get to see a copy of the score that JW used for the 'Luke and Leia' piece for ROTJ?

What I am particularly interested in is if any tempo change markings are displayed in the original score before rehearsal and recording, then how any handwritten notes of tempo change might have been added, then to be able to study any such markings so that I can understand how much the conductor/orchestra worked out the feel of the piece 'on-the-fly', so to speak, versus what was originally written by JW.

Or am I asking the impossible?

Mr. Williams is very protective of his music so I don't think there's much chance of seeing what you're looking for.
However, Hal Leonard Music publishes a number of Williams full scores under the "John Williams Signature Series" banner.
They provide a great insight to his composition and orchestration techniques.

Doesn't Williams conduct all his scores?

This was once presented at a John Williams Barbican concert in London with the LSO doing their bit. It sounded as it does on the 2nd Ed Jedi score disc and I think they must have shaped it to perfection because one of the group with whom I was in attendance was moved to tears by the piece.

While it wouldn't have any handwritten notations, that would still be a really useful book to have. Now I just need to find a UK source...

Well, it looks like none of the UK stores linked to on the Hal Leonard site are stocking the collection. Hal Leonard don't do consumer sales themselves. Does anyone know which (if any) of the US shops/sites would do international shipping for scores?

Hal Leonard does sell their own products direct. I have made many purchases from them over the years.
If you go to the product page, there is a shopping cart icon under the title page. Click it to make the purchase.
Easy.

Well, thanks to Hal Leonard (both their U.S. office and their U.K. distributor, but via a bit of a fluff up at their Netherlands dispatch centre) I now have a copy of the 'Music from the Star Wars Saga' Signature Edition smile

It's actually more useful to me than just for L&L, as it has a fully written out 'Cantina Band' #1 in it which I can use to 'improve' my previous effort with that. It also has 'The Asteroid Field' from Empire, which is great for seeing just how such a detailed and action-oriented piece is actually written, as is 'Here They Come' from Star Wars itself.

But I've just been landed with a job (only a basic wage though), it will remain to be seen how much time (and energy) I will have to study the scores and do something with them.
