I was planning on buying one of the "Varese reissues" from Ark Soundtrack Square but I'm not so sure if I feel comfortable buying from them. For one, I can't even find an ounce of outside info about the 50 reissues and two, they have a lot of bootleg/"rare promos" on their site which seems a little shady. Can anyone help me out on this one?

I can help you with some additional info on the reissues. They are being released by Rambling Records and will also be be carried by other Japanese retailers. Most of the releases are already listed at both Amazon Japan and Tower Japan.

Rambling Records also set up a site for the series, which currently has info on the first batch of 25 releases.

Rambling Records is an authorized distributor of Varese Sarabande releases. They've been working with them for some time now.

I had a question about that as well, then asked at Varese and was told it's legit.

I've bought from Ark in the past and have never had a problem smile

I know your question has been answered and that my own experiences don't relate to your specific question, but for what's worth, I've ordered many a Joe Hisaishi CD from Arksquare and they've never let me down.

Cobra,

Having regularly shopped with Ark Soundtrack Square over the last 10 years, I can honestly say that they are one of the best retailers out there. Their attention to customer service is impeccable, and you'll be even more impressed by the way they pack your CDs (when you receive one of their packages, you'll know what I mean!) So yeah, buy with confidence!

And regarding the Rambling/Varese reissues, they are most definitely legit as I saw them in store at Tower Records yesterday (I live in Tokyo).

Cheers,

Alain

I've bought from them twice. The first order arrived with no problem. The second never arrived at all. To be fair, I don't think this latter case was Ark Square's fault - I suspect the package was lost in the mail. I didn't pay for registered mail and Ark Square states on their website that packages are shipped at the risk of the buyer, so that was basically $60 flushed away. I didn't read the fine print until it had been a couple of months since I'd placed the order, so I guess I that was my mistake.

Bottom line: I would definitely suggest opting for the registered mail option if you order from them.

Chris.

I remember my first order probably 7 years ago. It was Japanese pressing of Christopher Gunning Poirot TV score and the package came fast and safe also with great protective package.
And from that time I am ordering from Arksquare on regular basis, becasue of their great services for customer.
There was lot of help form their site with obtianing rare and OOP Japanese scores.
The communication was always awesome and friendly and I use EMS registered mail, because it is the best way how to secure package (and they have great price for EMS) + never lost any package ordered through their store.
They can be certianly trusted.

All the best
MD

I placed two or three orders last year, which arrived fast and in perfect condition.

When one of these orders contained an out of stock title, the communication about this went smoothly and friendly.

Definitely recommended.

Thank you very much for the link.
I'd be very glad to know more about the remastering work done by Rambling Records. I'd gladly buy a fully remastered Rise Of Cobra album. The score kicks so much ass, but the first release lacks punch and clarity on some of the cues.

Hello, sorry my grammar, I’m from Brasil!
I am a customer of ARK SOUNDTRACK SQUARE for over 10 years, and in my opinion, is the best store I found on the planet!
Before I met them, I always had problems with some stores. Some stores treated me very badly, without patience, beyond incompetence; I will not say names as a matter of ethics, but I can assure you that there are some stores whose rudeness to the customer is absurd.

Today, I just buy them, and do this: every week when some classic soundtrack release occurs, I write to my friend Hajime from ARK SOUNDTRACK SQUARE, and I ask my CDs. I also buy many OOP.
Among some shipping options, they use an ultra fast delivery service, FedEx, and in 5 days I receive my CDs, with complete safety (5 days from Japan to Brasil!); and besides, the price of shipping is very affordable for me, mainly because I buy many CDs per month (I buy a month around 10-25 CDs).

Another important point with ARK SOUNDTRACK SQUARE, and I want to highlight is the ease of communication, patience, and commitment to work and serve well the customer. They are extremely competent and educated, have much patience with customers and understand much of soundtracks/labels!
Well, really, they are on top of the professionalism, is the store number 1, and I will always buy from them!

Yeah, I've placed countless orders with Ark Square over the past 13 years or so and have always gotten excellent service from them. Good communication, prompt shipping, and no packages have ever been lost in the mail.
