I just came across this CD on the Jazz in the Movies Label. I have an excellent LP transfer of Crime in the Streets, but I don't have Dino. I am wondering about the sound quality on the CD. Is it worth buying? Also there is a CD out with To Kill A Mockingbird/Blues and Brass from the UK. I am more interested in the Blues and Brass than the Mockingbird (Doug has already done that to perfection). How is the sound? Is it available in the US? Thanks in advance for your help.
I'd say it's worth it on the strength of the music, and a must have for Gerald Fried fans. The sound quality is not great - it is mono and there's ample evidence that Dino has been mastered from a vinyl copy, but it's probably unlikely this obscure score will get better treatment from another label any time soon.

Thanks, Jeff, for the report on the sound. I think you're right; it is unlikely that Dino will ever be reissued, so I will probably go ahead and get this just for Dino.
Basil, I would like to hear a comparison too. I don't have the Varese, but from the samples, it sounds like an excellent remastering.
Crime in the Streets lists the same content as the Varese Club release. Has anyone compared the sound quality of the two?
Varese rarely discusses the source for their recordings, but I suspect that their CRIME IN THE STREETS is from the LP master tapes, whereas the Jazz In the Movies CD is most assuredly mastered from a vinyl LP source.
