MONDAY, NOVEMBER 17
UNIVERSAL CLASSIC MONSTERS---Universal Studios head Donna Langley said the studio's reboot monster movies will be "action-adventure" movies instead of horror movies, “We don’t have any capes [in our film library]. But what we do have is an incredible legacy and history with the monster characters. We’ve tried over the years to make monster movies — unsuccessfully, actually. So, we took a good, hard look at it, and we settled upon an idea, which is to take it out of the horror genre, put it more in the action-adventure genre and make it present day, bringing these incredibly rich and complex characters into present day and reimagine them and reintroduce them to a contemporary audience.”
She said about the FAST AND FURIOUS franchise, "...there's at least three more...I think it's still a growing franchise."
THE ACCOUNTANT---Jon Bernthal (FURY, THE WALKING DEAD) will co-star with Ben Affleck in this movie about a mild-mannered accountant who moonlights as an assassin.
TRUE DETECTIVE---Lolita Davidovich (BLAZE) and James Frain (THE TUDORS) will have recurring roles in Season 2. Davidovich will play the alcoholic, ex-showgirl mother of Taylor Kitsch's cop character. Frain will play play a ruthless police detective.
THE PEANUTS MOVIE---20th Century Fox photo from the CGI-animated movie which premiers on November 16, 2015.
CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR---Daniel Bruhl has joined the sequel cast in an undisclosed role. Also, the Russo Brothers (CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER) are the top candidates to direct THE AVENGERS: INFINITY WARS PART I and II.
HAIL, CAESAR!---Christopher Lambert (HIGHLANDER) will co-star in this Joel and Ethan Coen comedy movie about a 1950s Hollywood fixer and the star of an action movie who mysteriously disappears in the middle of the filming. George Clooney, Scarlett Johansson, Josh Brolin, Channing Tatum and Frances McDormand also star.
THE FRANKENSTEIN CHRONICLES---Sean Bean (THE LORD OF THE RINGS, GAME OF THRONES) stars in this ITV six-part miniseries which is set in 1827 London. Police inspector John Marlott is assigned by the British Home Secretary to solve the case of the corpse composed of crudely-assembled body parts which washed up on the banks of the Thames river.
SHANNARA---Poppy Drayton (DOWNTON ABBEY) stars in this MTV series underway based on the fantasy novel series. Drayton will play Elven Princess Amberle.
KNIGHTS OF THE ROUNDTABLE: KING ARTHUR---Jude Law is in talks to play the villain in the Guy Ritchie movie franchise starring Charlie Hunnam.
THE LIZZIE BORDEN CHRONICLES---Lifetime sequel six-part miniseries to LIZZIE BORDEN TOOK AN AX. The synopsis says, "The limited series offers a fictionalized account of actual events and people surrounding Lizzie’s life after her controversial acquittal of the horrific double murder of her father and stepmother in 1892, when the exonerated figure lives a life awash in newfound celebrity. But when numerous people close to Lizzie, ranging from her half-brother to Broadway luminaries and the head of the criminal underworld, start to mysteriously die under brutal and strange circumstances, legendary Pinkerton detective Charlie Siringo becomes determined to prove her involvement in their ultimate demise." Christina Ricci, Cole Hauser, John Heard and Jonathan Banks star.
THE MILLERS---CBS canceled the sitcom.
EDWARD SNOWDEN---Shailene Woodley (DIVERGENT) is in negotiations to co-star with Joseph Gordon-Levitt in this untitled Oliver Stone movie about the NSA whistleblower.

Obviously they are thinking mainstream franchise here. I'm sure they want a PG-13 rating so kids can go see the movies, and perhaps market the characters as toys as they did in the 60's and 70's. Horror movies generally fall into the gore category. I would love to see intense physiological thrillers with the monsters.

They sound uncomfortable with their own property.
Warner Bros. often comes across the same way with the DC Comics property. They keep making DC movies, but seem not to want to actually make them very comic-book-y.
