Trevor Jones appears to be totally forgotten these days. I consider him an excellent composer. Today we see old albums receiving excellent editions. As is the case of THE UNTOUCHABLES (1987) and TERMS OF ENDEARMENT (1983). I consider the three scores below deserving the same treatment.

ANGEL HEART (1987)
The old Antilles Records album is a mix of score-source-dialogue. A new album should have the score, songs and source music separated, allowing us to better appreciate the magnificent solo-sax played by Courtney Pine.

MISSISSIPPI BURNING (1988)
Also from Antilles Records, with the same mix. The score have great power and beautiful melancholic moments. The Gospel source music is pretty amazing.

IN THE NAME OF THE FATHER (1993)
The Island Records consists of only three suites: “Interrogation”, ‘Walking The Circle”, and “Passage Of Time”. The whole score is good especially the death sequence of Pete Postlethwaite character.

Maybe these scores are not everybody’s cup-of-tea, but along with the expanded score from THE LAST OF THE MOHICANS (1992), it could fit in some collectors taste.

Thanks!

I'd love to have a dialogue-free Mississippi Burning.

I'm with you -- Trevor Jones is an excellent composer. Mohicans was the first score CD I listened to (at least consciously) so he is largely responsible for my obsession with film music. I'd buy an expanded edition of it and many other Jones scores, but the problem is that he himself isn't supportive of other labels besides his own releasing his music.

He's done some great stuff, but to be totally honest I'd rather have them focus on his completely unreleased material, not expansions of previous albums. There's plenty to choose from. G.I. JANE, for example, which never got an official score release at all.

love all three scores, hate all three album presentations.

That said, I'll take any new Jones I can get.

I'm a little surprised you mention this one, Thor. Love this score but I always felt like the suite on the soundtrack was a really good representation of the highlights.

Mr. Jones spent past weekend with the Bulgarian Symphony Orchestra recording his latest score for a commercial or a short of some kind (a Spanish production I believe).

The soundtrack album contains three suites which contains most of the highlights, but I too would love to see an expanded version. The music for the final battle is epic!

Another Jones score I'd love to see expanded is Hideaway.

Well, I totally forgot that suite. I've had the boot for ages and I initially assumed that was because there was no score tracks on the official release.

I'd welcome a full commercial release just to get more Jones out in the marketplace, but for me the whole score meanders a bit. The cues on the soundtrack amount to over twenty minutes of score, so it's a tight selection that packs a punch.

This is a great memory from the theater in 1993. Very good film, and a good score. Some of the songs were really good too, Sinead O'Connor's You Made Me The Thief Of Your Heart is brilliant:

Ditto. I yearn for a better presentation of 'm all. Especially Mississippi Burgning.

By the by, I like to urge you to look in to Richard Jacques' scores for the Headhunter games. If you're into Jones' power scores as I am, you gonna looooovvve those.

Edit: darn it. Now I have to play Kiss of Death. Loud. big grin
