THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 20

STAR WARS---AJ Edwards (THE TREE OF LIFE) confirmed he's in talks to direct the untitled third STAR WARS spinoff movie, "Talking about it, not able to say a lot yet. It will focus on Mace Windu." Gareth Edwards (GODZILLA) and Josh Trank (CHRONICLE) are directing the other two spinoffs.

1984---Paul Greengrass (THE BOURNE SUPREMACY, CAPTAIN PHILLIPS) will direct the Sony Pictures movie based on the George Orwell novel. Two earlier movies were made from the novel. The 1956 version starred Edmond O'Brien, and the 1984 version starred Richard Burton and John Hurt.

YUCATAN---Robert Downey, Jr. is the star/co-producer of this adventure movie based on a treatment written by Steve McQueen in the 1960s. McQueen would have starred as a deep sea diver hired to steal lost Mayan treasure in the Yucatan Peninsula. The script will be written by Terry Rossio (SHREK, PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN).

COWBOY NINJA VIKING---Chris Pratt (GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY) apparently tweeted a confirmation that he's starring in the movie based on the graphic novel, ā€œ@jbkelly80: @prattprattpratt pic.twitter.com/lNR1NYxT56ā€ YES! But who is our director? That is the question. Who do u think it should be?"

PROMETHEUS 2---Ridley Scott said the sequel will not focus on the original "dragon" (HR Giger's Alien from the original movie), but will be, "fresh" and "getting away from gods and dragons and sh-t. If I see one more dragon Iā€™m going to shoot myself. Stop the dragons." He added, "With PROMETHEUS 2 what I'm trying to do is reintroduce a fresher form of alien in the third act.ā€ Scott said the original alien is, "the definitive dragon and he's a motherf--ker. The Alien's real which is why it's probably one of the scariest monsters in film history."
He also updated the status of the BLADE RUNNER sequel, "It's written, it's really good."

HIGHLANDER---Tom Cruise was offered the starring role in the remake of the 1986 movie that starred Christopher Lambert and Sean Connery. Cruise would play Connery's role of Sanchez Villa-Lobos Ramirez. Justin Lin is the executive producer. Cruise is also involved in MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE 5, NEVER GO BACK (the sequel to JACK REACHER) and the TOP GUN sequel.

LONGMIRE---Netflix has picked up the A&E Western series and will air Season 4, which picks up where Season 3's cliffhanger left off, in 2015.

GOTHAM---showrunner Bruno Heller commented on future characters, "We're going to do a prenatal origin story for Robin down the line. There are no MRIs involved. There's an episode coming up where we learn how Robin's parents got together."
He said about Scarecrow, "This is not a kid being a loony Scarecrow; this is a couple episodes about how that character has evolved-everyone's character is formed in their childhood to some degree or another. His father is involved, as is part of the [character's] mythology."
He denied rumors that Harley quinn will appear this season, "We haven't got Harley Quinn in it. Riddler's girlfriend is coming up. And Harley Quinn is definitely planned for later on, but so far no."

THE FLASH---Arrow will appear in the December 2 episode titled "Flash vs. Arrow".

THE CRAWLERS---horror movie underway based on the Philip K. Dick short story. The movie is set in a 1960s Texas town where a government surveyor discovers an underground colony of deadly mutated children. Dick's daughter, Isa Dick Hackett, is co-producer.

STEVE JOBS---Sony Pictures shelved the untitled biomovie with Universal Pictures interested in acquiring it.

GI JOE 3---Martin Campbell (CASINO ROYALE) is Paramount Pictures' top choice to direct the sequel.

GOING IN STYLE---Zach Braff (SCRUBS, GARDEN STATE) is in talks to direct the remake of the 1979 comedy movie that starred George Burns and Art Carney.

THE PANOPTICON---Keanu Reeves is in negotiations to star in this sci fi movie in which a man must save mankind from a global apocalypse after he receives a warning from his future self.

TINKER BELL---Melissa McCarthy will star in this untitled comedy movie from Shawn Levy (NIGHT AT THE MUSEUM) movie.

KING ARTHUR---Djimon Hounsou (GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY, GLADIATOR) is in talks to play the Merlin-like character in the Guy Ritchie movie.

DRAGONFLIGHT---first movie underway from the DRAGON OF PERN movie/novel franchise.

THE GOLDFINCH---Peter Straughan (TINKER TAILOR SOLDIER SPY) will write the script for the Warner Bros. movie based on the novel.

Scott talks and talks and talks PROMETHEUS 2. It's never going to happen, nor should it.

A letter campaign to have something NOT be made. Now I do not think that has ever happened, heck, maybe this is the time.

Dear studio, please do not make this movie. Let it go Ridley, I would prefer Legend 2, or Bladerunner 2, oh yeah, they are making "Blade Runner 2 - Deckard gets a Walker"

"Cool" sure has taken a kick in the balls lately. Quite a fall from the genuine article that was Steve McQueen.

STEVE JOBS---Sony Pictures shelved the untitled biomovie with Universal Pictures interested in acquiring it.

Now Universal can have the horror franchise they've always wanted.

Mace Windu - Hmmm. Hmm. Sam Jackson was ill-fitting for Star Wars. Laurence Fishburne would have been better; Mr. Jackson`s swordplay skills need development. He was alright overall, but I thought him a weak link rather than a strong one.

Because nothing screams Immortal Egyptian Spaniard like Tom Cruise.

Hi Warlock, if I remember correctly Samuel L Jackson's light sabre fight at the end of R.O.T.S. was a very last minute decision (by George Lucas) which might account for it's less than epicness. I'm pretty sure it was on one of the documentaries on the dvd's which I no longer own.

I totally disagree. PROMETHEUS was my favourite movie that year, and I can't wait to see what they'll do to bring the universe further!

My reaction to Prometheus was I taking 5 minutes to sketch a picture of myself about to hit Ridley Scott with a shovel. You're welcome.

Count me in for Prometheus 2....

Indeed. For every PROMETHEUS 'hatred' post I see (like LeHah's above), my love of the film only gets stronger and stronger. And it was pretty strong to begin with.

I guess I'll have to fly to Norway to see Prometheus 2 with Thor. I thought the movie had some flaws, but I was thoroughly entertained, and I'm ready for the sequel. (And this confession does NOT make me a bad person.wink)

Just for clarification's sake re "Yucatan", Mr. McQueen never wrote ANYTHING connected with this project other than being interested in top-lining it, even to the point of his mentor John Sturges also floating in and out of interest. Matter of fact, if feeble mem'ry recalls, there wuz even a Variety announcement ad sometime in the mid-70s when the production was still trying to find its final sails ...

I believe Neotrinity, but to clarify my original post, the original article I got the information from said:

"Based on a 1700-page treatment written by iconic actor Steve McQueen in the late 1960s, the story involved a renegade salvage expert's search for Mayan treasure in the Yucatan Peninsula."

Bill Paxton comes to mind. Oh, the Frailty wink

Good sketch. Personally I don't care if Prometheus 2 gets made or not.

Prometheus was not a perfect film, but I still enjoyed the hell out of it. Bring on part 2.
