FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 21

THE STAND---writer/director Josh Boone (THE FAULT IN OUR STARS) said the project based on the Stephen King novel will be four movies, “…I sold [Warner Bros.] on a single, three hour movie… So what happened is the script gets finished, I write it in like five months. Everybody loves it. [Stephen] King loves it. $87 million is what it was budgeted at...They came back and said ‘Would you do it as multiple films?’ and I said ‘F–k yes!’…So I think we are going to do like four movies.”
He added, "I can’t tell you anything about how we’re going to do them or what’s going to be in which movie. I’ll just say we are going to do four movies, and we’re going to do THE STAND at the highest level you can do it at with a cast that’s going to blow people’s minds. We’ve already been talking to lots of people, and have people on board in certain roles that people don’t know about. We’re looking to go into production next year, maybe in the spring.” The 1994 miniseries starred Gary Sinise.

HACKSAW RIDGE---Mel Gibson is in talks to direct this movie about Demond Doss, the first conscientious objector to be awarded the Medal of Honor. Doss, a Navy corpsman, was awarded the Medal of Honor for bravery during the siege of Hacksaw Ridge during the invasion of Okinawa in World War II. Andrew Garfield (THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN) is in talks to play Doss. Randall Wallace (BRAVEHEART) is the co-writer.

PATIENT ZERO---Matt Smith (DOCTOR WHO) will star with Natalie Dormer (GAME OF THRONES) in this movie set during a global rabies plague which has turned most of the population into zombies. A survivor uses his unique ability to communicate with the zombies in order to find a cure for the plague to save mankind and his infected wife.

PLANET OF THE APES---Andy Serkis said there may be more movies in the franchise, "...It might be three films, It could be four. It could be five...But the journey will continue. It might not necessarily be summarized or completely fulfilled in this next one. The point being, eventually we know that we’re going to end up back at THE PLANET OF THE APES, but whether it’s this film or not, I don’t know.”

JESSICA JONES---candidates to star in the Marvel/Netflix series are Marin Ireland, Krysten Ritter, Alexandra Daddario, Teresa Palmer and Jessica De Gouw. Candidates to play Luke Cage are Lance Gross and Mike Colter.

ZOOLANDER 2---Penelope Cruz will co-star with Ben Stiller in the sequel.

TALIBAN SHUFFLE---Martin Freeman (THE HOBBIT, SHERLOCK) will co-star with Tina Fey and Margot Robbie in this movie based on the memoir of journalist Kim Barker's stints in Pakistan and Iraq.

PETE'S DRAGON---Bryce Dallas Howard (SPIDER-MAN 3, daughter of Ron Howard) is in talks to star in the Disney remake of its 1977 movie. Robert Redford is also in talks to star.

THE EXPANSE---Chad Coleman (THE WALKING DEAD) and Jared Harris (MAD MEN) will co-star with Thomas Jane and Steven Strait in this Syfy series in which a detective and a rogue spaceship captain team up to find a missing girl and discover an interstellar conspiracy.

VEEP---Hugh Laurie (HOUSE, MD) will have an undisclosed recurring role in Season 4.

I WOULD ONLY ROB BANKS FOR MY FAMILY---movie underway based on the true story of a Texas engineer who got his teenage son and daughter to help him rob banks. Jason Reitman is the director.

WIDOWS---movie underway based on the British series in which the widows of three bank robbers killed during their crime team up to complete the heist and discover a "fourth man " was also involved. Steve McQueen (12 YEARS A SLAVE) is the director. A 2002 US series starred Brooke Shields and Mercedes Ruehl.

GLOBAL FREQUENCY---Fox series plot underway based on the comic book about a secret intelligence organization. Rockne S. O'Bannon (FARSCAPE) will write the script. Jerry Bruckheimer is the co-producer.

SULLIVAN & SON---TBS canceled the series.

Oh dear, four movies for The Stand. Is this a knock-on from the three epic movies from that slim volume, The Hobbit. I see the third Hunger Games book is two movies.

PATIENT ZERO---...in this movie set during a global rabies plague which has turned most of the population into zombies....

Why won't they abandon the Romero zombie bandwagon and return the undead to their Voodoo zombie origins?

Eh, the Hobbit is a shorter book that should have been a 2 1/2 hour movie, NOTHING MORE. Freaking Rankin Bass told the story...plus songs...in less than 90 minutes. 3 movies, 9 hours or so is madness.

The Stand being a huge novel, it can support multiple films. 3 movies, yeah. 4, not so much.

And if the film still is intended to go all Akira at the end ( although that could have been just internet BS rumors ) then count me out for even 1 movie. Overall, the TV mini-series did a pretty darn good job.
