Nonesuch will be releasing the soundtrack to INHERENT VICE on 15 December (pre-order at Amazon or Nonesuch) and...for all you vinyl lovers...on vinyl 3 March 2015. The soundtrack is a mix of Jonny Greenwood's score for the film and, I'm assuming, songs used in the film. There's no preview clips available yet.
The track listing (from Pitchfork) is listed below:
01 Jonny Greenwood: "Shasta" 02 Can: "Vitamin C" 03 Jonny Greenwood: "Meeting Crocker Fenway" 04 The Marketts: "Here Comes the Ho-Dads" 05 Jonny Greenwood: "Spooks" 06 Jonny Greenwood: "Shasta Fay" 07 Minnie Riperton: "Les Fleur" 08 Jonny Greenwood: "The Chryskylodon Institute" 09 Kyu Sakamoto: "Sukiyaki" 10 Jonny Greenwood: "Adrian Prussia" 11 Neil Young: "Journey Through the Past" 12 Les Baxter: "Simba" 13 Jonny Greenwood: "Under the Paving-Stones, the Beach!" 14 Jonny Greenwood: "The Golden Fang" 15 Jonny Greenwood: "Amethyst" 16 Jonny Greenwood: "Shasta Fay Hepworth" 17 Chuck Jackson: "Any Day Now"
I didn't want that track. I liked the score in the movie though.
Thanks, Jeff...
The "Spooks" track was of particular note to non-FSMers because it was a (drastic) rearrangement of an unreleased Radiohead song. So it's just funny that the two tracks that feature dialogue are the ones that would be of interest to non-film music people.

Ordinarily I'd agree, but here the Pynchon voiceover actually does feel like it's meant to be part of the musical experience - I got a nice Velvet Underground "Murder Mystery" vibe from those tracks.
