I think this is still my favorite cue by Hans Zimmer, for the 1990 Days Of Thunder movie. The way it builds, the instrumentation, the passion and power - just perfect. OK, so I usually skip the last minute with the drum part, but that's a minor quibble. I remember when it showed up on those DOT B-sides in the early 90s, even if it was nowhere to be found on the original soundtrack with the songs on it.

Does anyone agree that this may be Zimmer's finest moment?

An excellent cue indeed (and the score is among my Zimmer favourites), but I wouldn't say his 'finest' moment. There's so much other great stuff out there.

I should get the LaLaLand album and replace my ol' boot thingie.

You should indeed. 24 page booklet and a range of cool bonus tracks. But the quality of the boot is actually quite good too.

Nah, that goes to Prince of Egypt- the whole darn score. It his opus. If I had to pick one cue I would say " The Brig " from Road to El Dorado.

Totally agree and my biggest disappointment was the film version of this cue not on the Lala release! It is considerably different in the film and just as good.

I'm worried about the C&C concept, though. That's what kept me off it thus far.

This is new for me. But then I don't really know the film too well. I guess I have only seen it a couple of times.

Well, as you may know, that's not a big concern for me. Highlights are The Last Race (10:20) and Days Of Thunder Main Title (Rock Arrangement).

Yep, I agree, that track is pretty good. I haven't compared it to the film version though and must admit I've only seen the movie once so didn't spot the difference. I think I enjoy the first half the most and then the finale brings it back for me. Like someone else mentioned, the liner notes are a good read and I would recommend this CD to anyone who likes the movie/music. It's the only Zimmer score I own (so far) so I guess for me it's his finest moment. smile

Zimmer's finest moment:

Most assuredly. Especially love the second half. Always puts me in mind of Melanie Griffith f***ing Michael Keaton's s**t all the way up.

I respectfully disagree, as I think that Darlington from the same score is Zimmer's finest moment.

Runner's up: Red Warrior from The Last Samurai, a bit from Fools of Fortune and Interstellar.

I do wish the Lala release sounded as good as Black Rain. Some hiss takes away from the quieter moments of the score.
