Wow, you forum members are so very knowledgeable. (Yes Thomas, I like Barry.) Didn't realize so many men did Bond songs. Feel a bit stupid that so many are mentioned. Love you all for smashing my ignorance.
I have liked some of Sam Smith's songs, and I hope the song, if good, was woven into the underscore.
That´ s the next problem: most of the the title-songs that were not written by the filmcomposer did not make it into the score in any form. Only John Barry really used the songs written by aha and Duran Duran in his scores. Even then it would have certainly been MUCH better if he had been allowed to write his own title-songs!
John Barry has a writing credit on both of those songs.
Going from memory, Bond songs with a different writer than the score composer: From Russia With Love: Used in film Live and Let Die: Used in film (this is the last song not written by the score composer until Brosnan!) Goldeneye: Not used Tomorrow Never Dies: Not used Die Another Day: Not used Another Way to Die (Quantum of Solace): Used in film? Yes? Skyfall: Used in film (um, right?)
For Tomorrow Never Dies, David Arnold's title song is used all over that score. Then that song was relegated to the end titles for commercial reasons (not that Cheryl Crow sold any more records than K D Lang would have).

I'm pretty sure there are quotations of strains of The World Is Not Enough all over David Arnold's score.
