If North Korea is in fact behind these, I do applaud them for their sense of humor. big grin

We can all be relieved that no one really wants to make another Steve Jobs movie at least.

Scott Rudin sounds like a real jerk, but I am hardly surprised either.

In the grand scheme of things it is really neither surprising nor unusual at all to discover that not everyone necessarily gets along with everyone else...

No Big Deal®.

North Korea really cracked a nut here didn't they? At least give us something titillating.

I don't buy into the idea that NK committed this crime ... just some anarchist hackers who saw an easy mark and exploited it.

The real news is the magnitude of the negligence of Sony with respect to protecting its info. I have to imagine that an entire movie(s) is the biggest piece of data out there. Not being able keep a LAN separate from a WAN seems to be a big mystery for some/most IT folks these days.

Remember the story about the crap Danny Eflfman had to put up with on Sony's SPIDERMAN 2?
He literally had to "audition" every cue. The suits ended up tampering with several of them.

Now, I 'm not saying he (or some other composer) had anything to do with this, but, if they did, I understand.

LOL!

Possible, although I might argue that no matter how "secure" a network, a hacker or hackers can always find a way in, so a breach may not be such a 'fault' of those in charge of preventing it.

(charitable voice)

I think most security experts would deign *not* to stand up and declare any network to be unbreachable, for the fear of drawing peculiar attention to it... and an invariable crack of it.

FBI said the attack was pretty skilled, so skilled that they would have permeated even government networks, so these hackers are clearly top notch, so it has little do with Sony.

And we got to see Seth Rogen at his gentleman best praising Amy Pascals testicles.
Now that is a suave fella there, praising a woman's balls.

Every time he talks he seem slimier, but I guess that is why James slimey Franco and him get along so well. I might watch that movie if it did not star both of them.

I worked in high tech for my entire career on leading edge computer designs, but also know the limits of my insight into network security. It does remain a bit of a mystery to me that so many (all) businesses remain so vulnerable though. Speaking to my brother the other day, here are the items I listed as sure bet losing propositions at the company I retired from (yet again) this year. At their peak they did $50 billion per year revenue. They do a good job on their passwords, but a chain is only as strong as its weakest link.

1) Allowing employees to surf the web from within the LAN

2) Allowing employees to download and run tools (executables) from the web. Every tool in the company should only be available through IT after having been verified ... obviously.

3) Allowing employees to bring in USB thumb drives and other peripherals. Again, no authentication.

When I decided to rehire in 2013 I needed to study the last project design's micro architecture so I could have a technical conversation after having spent 1 year of swimming coral reefs and looking at fish. smile The pirated powerpoint slides were available on the internet, which was good for me but not so good for the company.

Michael Mann's new film, Blackhat, seems all the more relevant in light of these hacks (and others that will come).

I love how Scott Rudin insulted Jolie's talents. What are his talents besides making money by leeching off of other people's abilities? Getting fatter?

Oh, and I also love how Amy Pascal is the latest idiot to go to Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson in order to "make things right" and "heal." I'll just say that South Park episode from years ago remains as relevant as ever.

It does bother me that apparently much of the personal information about the “working stiffs” there was part of the hack attack.
I really have little to no sympathy for the big shots who lecture us about how “we” need to get by with less “for the planet” while they travel in private planes, have enormous mansions and yachts and “carbon footprints” many times greater than the rest of us “flyover folks”.
Am I guilty of shadin’ a Ford?

perhaps relevant, but no less boring.
I watched the trailer for this, pure anesthetic.

There is little more boring that watching people stare at screens and cell phones, eyes gazing at code on the screen, wait ---the font is glowing electric green or blue - wow. The effort to turn code nerds into action heroes has been dead from the start. And the idea of Chris Hemsworth as a code nerd is pretty funny too.

Is Blackhat one of those techno thrillers where the image of the computer monitor of mobile is always clearly reflected in the faces of whoever is looking at the screen?

It worked with Bishop in Sneakers, but everywhere else....
