Have any of the labels looked into the availability of this score? Do the masters exist? Lost for all time? Considering the age of the program they probably don't sound to good. But I would love a complete release. I'll settle for a re-recording!

More about the music on the other side of this board...

They should have a C.D. of both the songs and the Maury Wills score.

This has been out for years and covers the show pretty well:

I remember being very excited to find this LP back in the eighties. Which reminds me, I think I'll go give that LP a spin right now...

For the 50th Anniversary of its first airing on NBC, Geffen (?) Records has issued a reproduction of the original 1964 release:

It's the songs only, not the score, however.

And it's missing a song. Edit: Technically there's a small snippet of the score on side B.

A Russian couple was walking down the street in St. Petersburg the other night, when the man felt a drop hit his nose. "I think it's raining," he said to his wife.

"No, that felt more like snow to me," she replied. "No, I'm sure it was just rain, he said." Well, as these things go, they were about to have a major argument about whether it was raining or snowing. Just then they saw a minor communist party official walking toward them. "Let's not fight about it," the man said, "let's ask Comrade Rudolph whether it's officially raining or snowing."

As the official approached, the man said, "Tell us, Comrade Rudolph, is it officially raining or snowing?"

"It's raining, of course," he answered and walked on. But the woman insisted: "I know that felt like snow!" To which the man quietly replied: "Rudolph the Red knows rain, dear!"

I hope the new version sounds better than the old one. The mono LP sounded fine, but the stereo CD from the late 1980s was shrill and distorted.

Bump! Any word from the labels? Have you looked into this title? Are the recording sessions lost to time?
@ edwzoomom - Oh, that's sooooo bad! LOL big grin

You could always do that if you wanted dialogue, SFX, etc. Anathema to most of us, though.

The discussion had turned to just the songs, which would be fine from dvd, but I see he wants a complete release. I think of it as a musical and forgot about the nondiegetic.

Bump.

Considering the enduring popularity of this show, it is kind of amazing that we have not gotten an expanded, remastered version of the soundtrack.

What's the story?

I have the CD and it sounds absolutely terrible. The mono LP sounds much better.

It would be great to have "Fame and Fortune" restored.

Considering that this was made by a small animation company and funded by General Electric (not a studio or network), it wouldn't surprise me if the tapes are long gone.

So how were the Decca and subsequent MCA albums made?

The same production companies that produced 1964's "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer" also produced 1967's "Mad Monster Party." And Percepto/FSM were able to unearth the tapes for that score.

IIRC, the MAD MONSTER PARTY tapes were for a soundtrack LP that didn't happen; Maury Laws kept a copy.

So how were the Decca and subsequent MCA albums made?

That was for an LP of the songs released back in the 60's; presumably the same album masters have been used over and over since then. Doesn't mean the masters for the score survive.

It also doesn't mean that the album release can't be improved. But if you are happy with the sound of the existing CD, then you're all set.
