Nothing to do with film scores but does anyone have the lyrics to this song? I have a recording of a Welsh choir singing it but the lyrics are not all clear.
It begins:

Cavalry riding, over the steppe lands riding

Here's one set of lyrics I found. There are probably others. I saw the name of Harold J. Rome associated with some English lyrics, but I haven't seen any lyrics identified as his.

CAVALRY OF THE STEPPES (TRAD./RSC)

SEE OVER THE STEPPELAND
SEE OUR MIGHTY HOSTS GO RIDING
COSSACK HORSEMEN IN THEIR THOUSANDS
COSSACK HORSEMEN IN THEIR THOUSANDS

SEE HOW THE SWEETHEARTS
WEEP TO SEE THEM RIDE TO BATTLE
SAY GOODBYE NOW TO YOUR LOVED ONES
SAY GOODBYE NOW TO YOUR LOVED ONES

LOOK DOWN THE ROAD LOVE
LOOK ALONG THE ROAD THEY TRAVEL
IN THE DUST THEIR VOICES DYING
IN THE DUST THEIR VOICES DYING

THERE IS NO GLORY IN THE DEATH
NO GLORY

Here's another set of lyrics, also unattributed to any author.

Meadowland

Meadowlands, meadowlands,
Through you heroes now are treading
Red army heroes of the nation
Heroes of the mighty Red army, ah!

Maidens are weeping
Their solitary vigils keeping
Weeping for their sweethearts who are fighting
Fighting in the mighty Red army, ah!

Gay roads are winding
The sunlight on them now is shining
Over them the heroes are passing
Heroes of the might Red army, ah!

Let ev’ry maiden
With heart no longer heavy laden
Strike up the singing now more loudly
Sing of fighting song so proudly, ah!

You can get a look at Harold J. Rome's lyrics here:

So, that's three separate sets of lyrics, none of which contain the phrase mentioned in the first post. At this point, you might as well make up your own lyrics.

I've always liked this orchestral arrangement of the song by Paul Mauriat:

Thanks for the replies. I'm still hoping to find the lyrics I heard. Here's some more of what I can make out:

Cavalry riding, over the steppe lands riding
Riding only to fight and conquer......

Start the blood of the invader flowing
Faster than the waters of the Volga

See how the enemy is in confusion
Bitterly regretting this intrusion
