I don't think it really is a question of "if?" anymore, but actually "when?". Agreed. The last full remastering was back in 1997 (though The Musical Journey bonus DVD with its higher-res audio did offer a tantalising glimpse of how much better it could all sound) which is an eternity back now, or seems it to me! They could sound so much better now in the right mastering hands. Fingers crossed Intrada do have this one in the pipeline. Next year of course would be THE perfect opportunity to release the set. I still dream of a dual format CD/SACD set of all the scores - the quality of this music and of the performances & recordings would benefit from every last drop of audio quality. If not next year, 2017 would be the next opportunity. No doubt Disney/Lucasfilm/Fox has something in line for the 40th anniversary of the original film... besides Episode VIII, that is.

Disney is doing a massive restoration of the films for BluRay to coincide with Epi 7. Someone will be milking the scores too. And for all those who respond with "That's just a rumour". Or add reasons why they won't happen, I will gladly post my "I told you so" when everything materializes. Doesn't Fox own Star Wars in perpetuity and the other 2 till the end of this decade?

My guess is no; Roger Feigelson has stated several times that he and Doug don't really like box sets. I suppose they could do it film by film, maybe, but I also have no idea how the music rights stand. Oddly enough, though Disney does indeed now own Star Wars, the music rights may be a bit (a lot?) more complicated. You're probably right. It would be nice to let Neil Bulk apply his mad mastering skills to this music. I don't believe Mr. Bulk is a mastering engineer so I don't know what skills you're speaking of exactly.

I feel certain that some deal must have been reached behind closed doors. You don't pay 4 billion not to have some kind of ownership of the original films that made Lucasfilm. Why would they do this and be secretive about it? There is absolutely no logical reason that they would announce this giant deal and lie about what they own. What purpose would that serve? Remember, Disney paid $4 billion for Marvel, despite not owning the film rights to many of those characters (and other rights, such as theme parks, are tied up in very complicated ways). They've since managed to make separate deals getting some of these characters back into their fold. So the same thing could happen with "Star Wars." But again, none of these Marvel deals were secret (once they were completed). At the very least, it would be nearly impossible to make a deal like that and keep it quiet once it's closed - the number of lawyers and personnel on both sides who would have been involved... One or two rando blogs post speculation/rumor - and that's all it has been at this point - which gets reblogged by aggregators and suddenly to fans it becomes fact. I'd love to see the original originals, remastered, anamorphic, HD, on Blu-ray, etc - and heck, maybe Fox is doing it themselves before they lose the distribution rights to five of the movies - but at this point the only thing that's available anywhere is pure Internet rumor.
