Tough call. Both are excellent presentations and the Quartet has the benefit of being complete. However, I find myself going for shorter, tighter presentations* these days (I believe its called the TJH Syndrome).

Both really. (and you'll have to pry them from my cold... fingers). ;-)

* For the most part.

Minor according to whom and what criteria?

It really bothers me when people talk about releases as if they are important or not.

Why does it matter, at all, if they are "minor"?

Quartet tops.

But I listen to Varese Fitzwilly more often than Music Box Fitzwilly.

I really enjoy the Quartet album. Calling this a score is a bit of an overstatement because let's face it, it's just a theme. But there are so many interesting and catchy arrangements it's hard not to listen all the way through. There's also something about the whole package. artwork etc that has a definite 70"s LP vibe. So yes, the Quartet album.

Too bad that the Supermarket version of the theme could not included.

I have both but feel that the Quartet edition is the way to go, if for no other reason than it includes the brilliant opening title sequence edit.

I just received my Blu-ray copy of the film on Friday, so I've been humming/singing “The Long Goodbye” since.
