I saw the Hi-Def transfer on cable and it looked fantastic. This movie came just late enough in time and was preserved well enough that it looked stunning. Even the opticals were refined enough in '89 that they still look magnificent today. And this was all in compressed 720i. So, yeah, its got to be coming. Why not build a little demand on cable?

I evidently hadn't watched my special edition DVD of THE ABYSS since I got my 16:9 TV as recently I put it on and was surprised to find that it's NOT a 16:9 enhanced transfer. So, I have a reason, other than my love of the film, to look forward to a new Blu-Ray of THE ABYSS.

The full frame version is the best!

I thought I read, when TERMINATOR 2 was released to theaters in 3D last fall, that Cameron was considering a 3D conversion of THE ABYSS as well, presumably for theatrical release before going to Blu-ray. How about coming out with a NEW FILM, Jimmy?. We await it with great anticipation. B

The full frame version is the best! Why? I own the widescreen, which I prefer. You see alot more image!

The full frame version is the best! Why? I own the widescreen, which I prefer. You see alot more image! But you lose the sides. It was shot in Super 35, so you only lose the sides in the visual effects shots... which is something I'm unwilling to do. Not in this case. Cameron " protected the frame". So, for example, when the water creature mimics MM 's face, the ws cuts off the top of her head .Plus you see alot more of the sets. To each hizher own. Brm
