I won't be able to attend, but highly recommend this to everyone! Hearing Back to the Future live is a treasure in itself, but with those amazing lists of films. The concert is sure to pass the two hour mark and give you your money's worth!

So are all of those scores going to be performed?

I don't know if I would want to hear Fletch by an orchestra though......

Sounds like a great program! I would have gone had it not been for the fact that I live on the other side of Planet Earth.

CLIFF EIDELMAN and SARA ANDON join "BACK IN TIME... 1985 LIVE!"
A historic film music concert program premiering with the Golden State Pops Orchestra. June 11, 2015

March 12, 2015 would have been Georges Delerue's 90th birthday. We will celebrate his memory and this anniversary with a live performance of one of his most beautiful themes from any film... AGNES OF GOD, in my concert "Back In Time ... 1985 Live!" Flute soloist Sara Andon will perform Delerue's Academy Award-nominated score with the great Cliff Eidelman (Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country, Big Miracle, The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants) conducting the Golden State Pops Orchestra and with Maestra Marya Basaraba and the GSPO choir. Delerue's spiritual score is powerful and moving, written with the gentle and compassionate touch that could only be his. We lost Georges far too early and the entire world of film music miss him so much. On June 11 in Los Angeles his spirit and his music will fill the concert hall of the Redondo Beach Performing Arts Center.

Make your travel plans now! This concert isn't just for those that live in Los Angeles. It will be one of those nights that will go down in film music history. Tickets are available now, but they will sell out. Book now and don't miss this historic evening of great film music. Join us!

Not really. I forgot how many 1985 scores were there then but very few. This is more a snapshot concert of a specific time.

My problem is Varese was created in the 70s and sometimes I think they think that is when potential film music for concerts started, even though over the years they have been the major releaser of Golden Age scores.

The good news this time is I learned Bruce Broughton will be doing SILVERADO. Varese never released that score in any shape or form. They are doing the best of 1985 even if Varese had nothing to do with it. Big bravo for that. In fact it makes me look forward to this one even more than that Anniversary gala.

Yikes, I didn't realize this concert was a Thursday.

Hope that doesn't hurt the attendance.

We could not have a celebration of the great film music of 1985 without THE GOONIES. It was one of the most requested score releases we have ever had, until we finally release Dave Grusin's iconic and much-loved score in 2010. GOONIES fans are legendary themselves. The film and the music mean the world to them. It his classic score, Grusin captured the adventure and fun of being a kid. We'll be bringing the exciting Fratelli Chase to the stage for our concert BACK IN TIME ... 1985 AT THE MOVIES! Though Dave Grusin is on tour this summer with Lee Ritenour, we are so excited to have none other than the legendary Lee Holdridge join our historic tribute to 1985 and conduct THE GOONIES on June 11 at the Redondo Beach Performing Arts Center.

BTW The amount of artwork on this one concert is impressive. I wonder how Williams got to do this arrangement?

From Facebook:

What a team behind this piece! In our live presentation of the Oscar-nominated scores of 1985 we are including Quincy Jones' classic The Color Purple in an exquisite arrangement for violin and orchestra, by none other than John Williams! And to conduct this beautiful piece we are so thrilled to announce and welcome the great Conrad Pope to our celebration of 1985, live in concert. Pope is the brilliant composer of such acclaimed scores as Pavilion of Women (2001), My Week with Marilyn (2001) and Tim's Vermeer (2013).

BTW Does anyone know when John Williams did that COLOR PURPLE arrangement above?
Was it when the film came out or is this new?
