Mia Farrow just posted Billie Whitelaw has passed at 82. :-(

James

I was on my phone when I posted this originally and couldn't include the news link.

I found it a bit ironic that I saw the post from Mia Farrow on Facebook as she reprised Billie's role from THE OMEN in the remake.

not Billie?!

"...Who loves you, eh? That's right, Mummy loves you, you little monsters. Mummy loves you more than anything - more than all the cakes, more than all the jewellery, more than all the chocolate in the world...!"

God, that's weird...I re-watched the Omen movies just a few days ago.

"Don't worry, little one...I am here to protect thee."

Also loved her little "comeback" role in Hot Fuzz ("Fascist...!").

Whitelaw also provided the voice of Aughra in The Dark Crystal, as well as appearing in Hitchcock's Frenzy (playing Clive Swift's shrewish wife).

she was well cast in The Krays, as per quote.

Dear God, this woman was a LEGEND.

She was the only actress Samuel Beckett would allow as leading lady in any of his premieres. A consummate performer, nice person, serious artist, and top nookie for that matter (such rarely accompanies the rest).

She was a living legend before any of this Hollywood ballyhoo.

A great performer from a time of crucial transition in just about everything.

The only genuinely scary woman I've ever seen in a film.

Thank you, Mrs Baylock.

Aside from Goldsmith's music Whitelaw stole the show in the "Omen", that was Oscar material.

The NY Times took a while to report Ms. Whitelaw's death, but this account is worth reading. Few of us will have seen the small-scaled theatrical performances upon which her reputation rests, but it would be a shame to remember her only for some tawdry Hollywood horror movie.
