Make a list of 10 original soundtracks unreleased, of your choice (please, not re-recording) So in your mind, re-recordings of the same music are worthless and should be ignored? The Music is DEAD unless it's the original soundtrack recording? Is that what your saying? Ford A. Thaxton Here goes Ford again making his unique interpretations of what someone else writes. God Forbid, I point out his rather odd FANBOY logic... The guy just put a simple disclaimer on his post. What's the BIG deal? You crack me up. "The Music is DEAD". What a reply. I know you are more knowledgeable than myself about film scores to be sure, however in my opinion- Re-recordings suck So we can put you in the camp that thinks the music is dead unless it's the soundtrack recording... What a lovely way to live. Ford A. Thaxton

Ten scores that I particularly like, that haven't been previously mentioned on this thread: Bernstein/Storm Fear(1955) Green/Alvarez Kelly(1966) Raksin/Jubal(1956) Schifrin/Blindfold(1966) Schifrin/The President’s Analyst(1967) Steiner/A Dispatch from Reuters(1940) Steiner/Rocky Mountain(1950) Steiner/Springfield Rifle(1952) Waxman/Tortilla Flat(1948) Young/Drumbeat(1954)

So we can put you in the camp that thinks the music is dead unless it's the soundtrack recording... What a lovely way to live. Ford A. Thaxton What do you mean exactly? If an original soundtrack is unreleased, well it is unreleased, and a re-recording will change nothing about that. Only if you think the only valid recording is the soundtrack recording. I'm sorry as far as I'm concerned if someone goes back and does a new recording of the score, that means it's not UNRELEASED as far as I'm concerned. All that tells me is that some folks only care about the soundtrack recording vastly more then the MUSIC itself. Ford A. Thaxton

Let's turn down the heat a bit. This thread is about unreleased original soundtracks, by which the author apparently means the original soundtrack recording as heard in the film. So we seem to be confusing the more technical meaning of "original soundtrack recording" with the "original score" of a film in whatever form - original or re-recording, at the time or many years later. If the original soundtrack has never been released apart from the film, it's perfectly legitimate to call it unreleased. And if what one wants to hear is the original recording apart from the film, it's equally legitimate to focus on these recordings. Whether individuals love or loathe re-recordings, there is no harm at all in people wanting to focus on an original recording they would like to hear apart from the film. Not all threads have to be about every version available or released of a particular score. And there can be very good reasons why someone wants to hear the original soundtrack version of the recording, so that doesn't mean it has to be about mindless collecting.

If a re-recording is done with expert care it is the best possible (and available) version of the composer´s work. See BSX´ "Blade Runner" or Tadlow´s "QBVII". I would therefore strike them off this 10 unreleased soundtracks-list. Unreleased scores I would like to have - as original soundtrack or re-recording: 1. MOONLIGHTING (tv series) 2. FAMILY BUSINESS 3. REMINGTON STEELE (tv series) 4. THE TALL GUY 5. THE JEWEL OF THE NILE

I notice that the O.P. hasn't been back since starting the thread in January, so we don't know - nor should it bother us - why he wants a list of 10 unreleased original soundtracks (no re-recordings). I don't imagine that his intention was to start a flame war, or even to have his request dissected as a matter of semantics. There have been plenty of re-recordings debates over the years, and he could have chipped in on any of those if he chose. You see I played safe in my list! Five Mellés and five Kirchins never released in any format. Here's another I'd love - Schifrin's THE MANITOU. Why has nobody ever thought of starting a "Holy Grails" thread? editado por satélite espía código-/6· Ah, my mistake. C.F. did mention back in January that he generally doesn't like re-recordings. I'm still not going to hate him for it.

I know you are more knowledgeable than myself about film scores to be sure, however in my opinion- Re-recordings suck! Another genre of music for sure, but I would never buy Prince redoing Purple Rain LP in 2015 or The Rolling Stones: Exile on Main Street being redone in say 1990. For myself- not you Ford- non-original recordings hold no interest for me. A bit akin to my lifelong disdain for the 12" remix version of some killer song. Not the original- not what the artist intended. No Sale. Let the verbal thrashing begin! Here is the thing. When I read the original post I did not presume it meant anything derogatory toward re-recordings -- merely that the intent of the discussion was to focus on unreleased ORIGINAL film recordings. So the motives were frankly irrelevant. Just choose to play or don't.
