Well I'm moving to Colchester and will be working mainly out of my Ipswich office from February so should be pretty easy to get together.

I'm honestly not looking for payment, just a decent home for my collection.

Can't see your contact details on your profile though mate.

I'm fairly ruthless when it comes to clearing out clutter and I don't have any sentimental attachment to an LP if I don't look at it or play it. It's just taking up space which could be put to better use. I've junked numerous LPs having found they are not worth the effort of trying to sell them - even charity shops nowadays find them worthless. I've still got about 200 LPs and half of those are by Miklos Rozsa which, as a total Rozsa enthusiast far above any other composer, I will keep. Others I've kept solely for their attractive presentation, such as the gatefold LPs for KING'S ROW, MAD WORLD, HOW THE WEST WAS WON etc.

I had a large 33/lp, 45, 78, and radioshows-on-18-inch collection which was archived in my family's house. I don't know how many items were in the collection - it included dozens of discs of radio movie spots, promo albums, etc., from my days as a DJ -- and my core collection of rock/pop, soundtracks, and classical music. Some of them are/were rare -- like Colpix lps, etc. I had always intended to take better care of the collection -- I would guess if lined up it would have been approx 50 linear feet of stuff. The material had sort of taken over the 2nd floor of the house. But my Dad had to relocate rather quickly into assisted living last September, and the family home had to be closed out, completely emptied, and sold within a time period of only one month. I managed to keep my comic collection and some treasured books/memorabilia -- and a few lps. Luckily, I had a young, lp-crazy, cousin who sort of sheepishly asked me over the phone what I intended to do with my record collection. As I looked at the 40+ cartons awaiting disposition, I found myself telling him and his mother that they were his as long as he could manage to pick them up before the house sold and closed out. His family came with a Uhaul trailer from out-of-state, packed them up -- and away they went to their new home.

I stood in front of the house when they pulled away from the curb -- and it was a bit like saying goodbye to old friends -- and also quite freeing in a weird way!

Do you have any younger relatives who might want the stuff?

Don't mean to hijack the OP's thread. But I'm sort of in the same boat. I inherited a trunk full of old LP's. Probably very rare including 78's. But I hate to just trash them. Previous owner wasn't all that careful with them so none are in mint condition. I like the idea of donating them to my local college. Think I'll try that.

I cannot believe that so many people on a music-focused forum are completely out of touch regarding the desirability of vinyl.

I'm likely taking a load of mine to a local secondhand book store that also deals in music and movies. The hipsters love their LPs these days, and I should at least get some store credit for them. You might check into that kind of option.

I second this and the charity thrift store option.
