This movie bombed back in 1979, a LP issued by Columbia Records was going to be released but was scrapped. A few promotional copies were pressed and bootlegs of the score have been circulated privately for years.

My question is does anyone thing this is something that could eventually be released? The film was released by Avco/Embassy which if I am correct in my thinking has since transferred to MGM/UA. Granted of course that the master tapes of either the original recording sessions or the LP have survived. (I know one track made its way onto a couple David Shire promos.)

Perhaps this something up Bruce Kimmel's alley. I could see Krizterland doing this.

I am not interested in the guys David Shire dated.

There's a nice cue on one of his compilations from the late 90's so yes, I'd wager at the very least Shire himself still has this music somewhere. Some of the solo cello writing foreshadows his magnum opus, RETURN TO OZ.

It is a beautiful score; I would buy it.

It is indeed a beautiful score, unquestionably one of David Shire's best. Would love to see a proper release of this opus.

And now that I've seen it and heard it - this has to be THE release of the year for me, so far at least! A beautiful piece of work, a magnum opus maybe... Thank you again, Intrada.

Look forward to picking this up. Whenever Shire got to write for orchestra, great things tended to happen.

Well you all convinced me to get this, and boy is everyone right.

One thing I'm noticing for those wondering about this. If you love Joe Hisaishi's scores for Miyazaki films and so on, this score has some real similarities in sound and approach from time to time. Very much the same idiom in general, and quite lovely and interesting throughout.
