Eight tracks from the rejected score (Michel Magne) were released just a few years ago on the Universal France compilation of Magne scores. If that one survives, provided they didn't get tapes from the composer's estate, then Fox's replacement might as well.

Bumping up this older thread to ask if anyone has any further info on the vinyl reissue from Varèse slated for release this upcoming Record Store Day (Nov 25 2016). From the Record Store Day website: "This is the first official reissue of the Barbarella soundtrack, and the first time that any iconic imagery of Jane Fonda in one of her signature roles has been placed on to picture disc. The album was mastered from the original analog sources used in the initial 1968 release. The album has been out of print since 1975." http://www.recordstoreday.com/SpecialRelease/8756 For some reason I had it in my head that the master tapes for this had been lost? I would be very happy to be mistaken on this point. Happy to see any reissue of this classic title, but would much prefer a CD. Any chance of that happening?

Well there's some weasel words there Yes, I was hoping someone here might be able to clarify the source used for this release. If it is just a few more copies pressed using a 50-year-old stamper, I probably don't need to pick this up. It is not too difficult to find original pressings, even still sealed. And I already have a picture of Jane Fonda. I don't know that I think the Harkit CD release sounds too terrible, though it is definitely a "needle drop." It seems like it's gone through a few pressings as well; I seem to recall the first pressing(s) had some problems with digital "pops," and "skips" in the digital master, and incorrect track listings in the accompanying booklet. I think the release on the Korean "Beatball" label (which is somehow connected to Harkit?) finally got all these errors correctly sorted out.

Well in spite of me saying I did not need another vinyl copy of this, I was out and about today and picked up the Varèse Record Store Day pressing, and it's terrific. I just finished listening to it all the way through -- a nice quiet pressing, and I was really surprised at how much I noticed the stereo separation -- some instruments seem to be panned far left, others far right. A very fun listen. It's been a long time since I've listened to my vinyl copy of the original release, I don't recall this being in such "ultra stereo." The picture disk LP comes in a clear vinyl sleeve with a sticker on it. The sticker includes these credits: Soundtrack Album Coordinators: Eric Ybanez and Michael Murphy Project Consultant: Lukas Kendall Mastered for Vinyl By: Chas Ferry and Daren Chadwick Assistant Mastering Engineer: Cody Thompson Still keen on a CD release of this! I think there at least a couple of tracks heard in the movie that are not on the LP. And if I'm suggesting bonus tracks, I would suggest adding 3 from Crewe's "Let Me Touch You" LP -- instrumental versions of "Barbarella" and "An Angel Is Love," plus an instrumental of "I Love All The Love In You" which has been re-titled "Let Me Touch You." This last one utilizes the same backing track as the song on the soundtrack LP.
