What I get from that is a cowboy film set at sea.

I'd opt for an English composer.

And, if not, then a composer working on an English film ... at least seeking to give the film an English setting/background.

Then again ...

Mitch

Lovely cue.

Sounds like some sea-faring adventure, probably period, feels English.

Is this the original music track, or a re-recording?

Sounds like the former.

The tunes are all Irish, there's a famous song melody in there. It's 'Hollywood' not English.

That's all I'm getting. Look for a '50s movie, probably comedy set in Ireland. It COULD be an English composer, but the harmonic style just feels Young/Hollywood to me. Probably something with Maureen O'Hara and Mr. Wayne or the like.

The tune at 44 secs is definitely a famous Irish folk-song, where are Niall and Thomas etc. when you need them?

The other jaunty tune that opens it is so similar to Quentin Durward's theme that I'd say we're talking Victor Young or Bronislau Kaper.

Actually, more like Young.

Great idea for a posting, Zoob. Just wish I knew what it was. Sounds like Victor Young to me too.

I still dunno, but the tune that appears at 44 secs and is clearly the love theme, is 'The Dawning of the Day':

It looks like this YouTube poster has had a few too many before he posted this. John McCormack didn't usually stand on his head:

Is this possibly Universal's 1955 CAPTAIN LIGHTFOOT?

(.....with music by the legendary, ubiquitous, often unsung, and multi-talented Joe Gershenson? smile smile smile .......)

(Title Music apparently by uncredited Frank Skinner, with Heinz Roemheld, Herman Stein, and Hans Salter also contributing to the score.......)

Yeah, it's LIGHTFOOT and talented Joe was very ably assisted by Messrs. Salter, Skinner, Stein and Roemheld!

Manderley is right; it is Captain Lightfoot.

And Manderley is the Winner! Fantastic!

It is indeed CAPTAIN LIGHTFOOT starring Rock Hudson and produced by Ross Hunter! A Universal International Picture in Cinemascope!

This is an interesting one Music Credit wise. In the Main Titles there is a card for: Musical Supervision by Joseph Gershenson. No "Music by" Credit.

At IMDB several composers are mentioned mostly under "Uncredited" and "Additional Music".

However, the Main Title music is credited to Frank Skinner!

Here is an Action Chase cue from CAPTAIN LIGHTFOOT. Wonder who may have composed it from the contributors?

Thanks everybody! That was fun!

Shall we play again?

So, if this is a contest, there must be a prize! smile

What do I win? smile

I'm not getting any younger, so maybe it's a vacation in Ireland this summer, courtesy of Ryanair or Aer Lingus, staying at a top hotel in Dublin, and a chance to visit the once-proposed site of the (now abandoned) Maureen O'Hara museum, among other delights.

Let me know as soon as possible so I can begin packing.

smile smile smile

There seems to be a lot of adaptations of Irish folk-tunes. Apart from 'Dawning', the other tune that bookends it is Irish too. So it's more a case of arrangement. Not like Joseph to take all the cred ......

I'd not be too surprised if some of the more dramatic music was recycled and re-recorded from the other contributors' previous flicks.

The bit immediately after the Prelude is filmed at Powerscourt by the look of it.
