I just got back from a neighbouring town.... they have a Goodwill thrift store. The store is smaller than the one where I live, but I always go in there to see what they have.
A month ago they didn't have a single CD on their rack. This time they had about a dozen, and amongst those were FOUR CDs of the TWLIGHT scores. Since I've never heard a note of any of them, I wasn't sure whether I should pick up any of them... so I called my buddy mgh to ask HIM! Long story short... I bought the SHORE and the DESPLAT CDs, but not the Burwell CDs... which is where you little shits come in(Sorry... I couldn't resist that!LOL!big grinbig grinbig grinbig grin)
Are the Burwell scores any good?
Oh... the CDs are in pristine condition and they cost a buck each.

I may be in the minority, but I absolutely love the Shore and Desplat scores and prefer them to Burwell's. I'll have to revisit his again.

My favorite is Elmer Bernstein's but I think Burwell's last two scores (Breaking Dawn pats 1 & 2) in particular are fantastic...

My two favorites in the series are ECLIPSE (Shore) and BREAKING DAWN PART 1 (Burwell), with BREAKING DAWN PART 2 close behind.

The original Burwell score is a little too poppy for me, and while the Desplat score has a pretty theme, I found it a little repetitive and dull (just like all his other scores!)

Still, strong music all throughout this series.

WELL.....THIS is emabarrassing!
This morning I decided to listen to the Shore score while surfing the internet. I put it in and started listening. "Hmmmmm.... very nice! Kind of sounds a bit like LOTR!", I said to myself. I got about 11 minutes or so into it when a piece started to play that sounded like it was a song, so I clicked on Media Player to see what it was called, and something didn't look right. I took the CD out of the computer and looked at it.... SOME JACK ASS HAD SWITCHED THE CDS... One of the BURWELL CDs was in the jewel box instead of the SHORE! I'm heading back down to the Goodwill to buy the other two CDs!
Well... at least NOW I know that the Burwell is good!big grinbig grinbig grin

BTW...Elmer BERNSTEIN wrote a score for one of the TWILIGHT MOVIES??????????????????????????????
I didn't think those movies were being made while he was still alive!

Hopefully the Burwell case with the Shore CD hasn't been sold yet so you can just swap 'em!

As far as Elmer Bernstein's Twilight score, it's excellent but I was being silly because it's not in the Twilight *series*. smile

Much better movie than any of those 'other' Twilight movies (of course) and one of my favorite late Bernstein scores.

Glad you accidentally discovered the latter Burwell is good though.

The "New Moon" cue is the best cue of the whole series from Desplat's New Moon score.

I spent some time with all three Burwell scores a few months ago after writing my earlier comment. Really enjoyed them much more than I originally did. I still probably prefer New Moon and Eclipse, but Carter's stuff is really growing on me.

Carter's stuff leaves me cold. Desplat's score is the best of the bunch because its the most melodic.

I happen to like all of the Twilight scores, which I picked up a few months ago for pennies each. The first one has a more pop-oriented sound than any of the sequels, which went more “epic.”

I do like how the overture from the last film (which I assume was written as a recap) attempts to bring all the main themes “into the fold” so so speak.
