TUESDAY, JANUARY 20

WORLD WAR Z---writer Steven Knight (EASTERN PROMISES) said about agreeing to write the sequel, “I thought, ‘why not? What fun.’ It’s not quite like the other, we’re starting with clean slate. When they’ve (Brad Pitt and the studio) signed off we’re on.”

SUICIDE SQUAD---spoiler alert (see below).

POWERS---the Sony PlayStation Network series based on the comic book about two detectives who investigate superhero-related crimes will premiere on March 10. Sharlto Copley, Susan Heyward, Michelle Forbes and Eddie Izzard star.

BATMAN v SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE---fight choreographer Guillermo Grispo said about the fight between Batman and Superman, “There’s a thought that Batman has no chance, that the Superman will squash him like a bug. But when you see the movie, and how it all comes out, there’s a very intelligent explanation as to why they would have a firsthand confrontation, though it seems to be totally to Batman’s disadvantage.”
He added, “Now Batman is going to fight the way I’ve always dreamed seeing him fight. He’s a character so prepared in martial arts that you can do a lot of things with him, but filmmakers usually don’t go all the way with it. Even in the last Nolan movies the action scenes aren’t very good from a technical, martial arts point of view to things like choreography, filming, bad camera movements…”

THE WALKING DEAD---Noah Emmerich, who appeared as CDC scientist Dr. Jenner who was killed off in Season 1's finale, commented on possibly returning for the spinoff prequel series, "Sure, I think he's a fascinating character. There's definitely a lot more to find out about Dr. Jenner. I have no idea, I haven't talked with them about anything. I don't know [if he could come back]. I have no idea, but it's an interesting question."

SUPERGIRL---audition tapes for the CBS series include characters Kara Danvers, Alex Danvers and Jimmy Olsen. The tapes imply that Superman will appear on the series.

THE FLASH---Grant Gustin said about the second half of the season, "Barry is still defending Wells and still trusting of Wells at this point. There's a big twist that even surprised me. I've seen all the predictions online. No one has predicted the big twist that's coming at the end of this season."
Executive producer Andrew Kreigsberg said Episode 13 will reveal the fates of Firestorm and Ronnie Raymond after the explosion.

GAME OF THRONES: A DAY IN THE LIFE---HBO will air the 30-minute documentary on February 8.

FABLES---movie underway based on the comic book in which fairytale characters live in a disguised New York neighborhood called Fabletown. Jane Goldman (X-MEN: FIRST CLASS) is writing the script.

CIVIL WAR---untitled PBS Civil War series underway based on true stories. The first season is about two nurses, one a New England abolitionist and the other a Confederate Southern belle, who are volunteers in the same Union army hospital. Ridley Scott is co-producer.

POWER RANGERS---Jason David Frank, who starred on the tv series, commented on the movie, "We're definitely not in a holding pattern. The movie is definitely set for this year. Everything is in place. They won't give me specific details because it's all like hush-hush....but they do feel that I'm going to be part of it, because they feel there's no movie, at least, without me."

FLAKED---new Netflix sitcom starring Will Arnett as a guy who falls in love with his best friend's girlfriend.

SUICIDE SQUAD---a source said about the movie, "Deadshot and Harley Quinn meet early when Deadshot is assassinating an inmate that is being transported from Arkham. Quinn disrupts the hit when she tries to break Joker out and both are captured and taken to Amanda Waller's prison.
Waller has Joker moved to the prison as a means to keep Quinn in check. He spends most of the film in a cell, very much like Hannibal Lecter, until he breaks out in the end.
Boomerang is already in the Squad and there is a contention between he and Deadshot, Deadshot killed his father.
The team is tasked on a mission to prevent 'bio weaponry' from being sold to Lex Luthor by a human trafficking gang. The gang is handing over the Enchantress to Luthor who it is implied wants her for magical abilities. They kidnap her and take her back to the prison where she is kept in an underground area, which has all sorts of genetic freaks imprisoned including a King Shark.
Rick Flag is there as a watchdog over Waller. The twist is his character is revealed as being in league with the villain, Rick Flag Snr at the end. (This is what I believe may have been the reason Hardy left) It is out of left field. They want the weapons that Waller has amassed.
There is a lot of action in the script but it primarily deals with Deadshot, Harley Quinn and the Joker. Flag is more of a government agent than anything else before his reveal as a villain."
A second source said, "A draft of the script has been finished and is being circulated between several executives pending a rewrite. The first part of the film concerns the capture of Lawton and Harley Quinn and afterwards they are taken to a maximum-security prison run by a warden called Waller. They are implanted with explosive devices and forced to be part of a mission where they are attacking an arms dealer's convoy. They are supposed to steal a weapon but end up capturing a woman called June, she has a split personality and her evil side is a sorceress.
Waller is tracking down and capturing every super powered hero and villain and it is implied that she is after Batman but he is not in the film, only mentioned and shown on camera footage. The film is being used as a set up for the franchises villains and not only the Suicide Squad. Belle Reve (the prison) is home to many of villains beyond the leads. The script ends with a prison riot where most of them escape, including the Joker. The Joker has a large part in the movie but doesn't get involved in any action scene until the very end during the riot where he kills several people.
The script has been getting much praise in the studio. The rumor is Tom Hardy left because of the changes to his characters although he is in two of the main action scenes."

If this is related to the Superman fight, this guy's an idiot. It doesn't matter how prepared in martial arts you are when your opponent can move faster than you can see, can crush your bones without a second thought.

But I suspect these two quotations were brought together from different contexts?

WORLD WAR Z

I've been really impressed with Brad Pitt's film choices and his ability to find good material, but must say that I would exclude WORLD WAR Z from that list. However, audiences seemed to like it, so ...

Disclaimer : I'm not a zombie fan. smile

I suspect Batman has some kind of armor suite (sort of like Iron Man) and this will allow him to go toe to toe with Superman.

World War Z was enjoyable enough, but it was a bit bloodless fir a zombie film. Come on Brad, bring on the claret.

I loved WORLD WAR Z, and looking forward to the sequel. I love zombie films and tv shows in general -- even if they freak me out!

I am sure Batman will fight Superman the same way he has fought Superman numerous times in the comics: Step 1. Expose Superman to kryptonite; Step 2. Pummel Superman. The only real variance is how significant the kryptonite affects Superman. His reaction to kryptonite has varied depending on the story, and can range from losing his powers and doubled over in pain, and being so helpless even Aunt May can take him down, to still in pain, powers dramatically reduced, but still formidable against an opponent who doesn't have powers. My guess is they will give Superman a limited ability to fight so that the action sequence isn't completely one-sided.

Of course, Man of Steel didn't feature kryptonite, but there is nothing saying it can't be reintroduced in the next film. Not that it needs introduction. Everyone knows kryptonite can kill Superman. Otherwise, I seem to recall Superman losing his powers in Man of Steel while he was on the krypton vehicle. Maybe the next film will have Batman figure out how to replicate whatever it was that caused Superman to lose his powers and have him use it against Superman. Regardless of the explanation, I am sure Batman will figure out a way to temporarily take away Superman's powers. Otherwise, if Superman is written correctly, the battle should be over before Batman can blink his eyes.
