WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 21

STAR WARS---two actresses have reportedly auditioned for the spinoff movie which will be directed by Gareth Edwards (GODZILLA): Tatiana Maslany (ORPHAN BLACK) and Rooney Mara (THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO). Felicity Jones (THE THEORY OF EVERYTHING) is a third candidate, but she may have a schedule problem because she will co-star with Tom Hanks in INFERNO, the latest THE DA VINCI CODE sequel.
Also, George Lucas said his earlier concepts for STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS were rejected by Disney, "The ones [ideas] that I sold to Disney, they came to the decision that they didn't really want to do those. So they made up their own. So it's not the ones that I originally wrote." Leanne Best (THE WOMAN IN BLACK 2: ANGEL OF DEATH) has joined the cast of THE FORCE AWAKENS in an undisclosed role.

THE X-FILES---David Duchovny said he's agreeable to returning for a revival of the hit sci fi series, “[I'm] more than happy and excited to bring it back and do it again with (co-star) Gillian (Anderson) and (series creator) Chris (Carter).”
He added the revived series should be a miniseries, "I’m assuming that it will happen sooner rather than later now. We’ll see what form, how many (episodes). Certainly I can’t nor would I be interested in doing a full season. It will be in some kind of limited form. We’re all old, we don’t have the energy for a full season.” Duchovny is currently starring in the NBC 13-episode miniseries AQUARIUS in which two 1967 LAPD cops investigate a missing girl which leads them to cult killer Charles Manson.

BATMAN v SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE---a new T-shirt supposedly given to the sequel's crew members shows Ben Affleck's armor suit.
Also, a rumor claims Batman will appear in SUICIDE SQUAD which will be a prelude to him in his own solo movie.

AMERICAN INTERNATIONAL PICTURES---the ten remakes of AIP's classic B movies of the 1950s will share the same movie universe and involves a single story arc. The remakes are SHE-CREATURE, TEENAGE CAVEMAN, THE BRAIN EATERS, REFORM SCHOOL GIRLS, GIRLS IN PRISON, DAY THE WORLD ENDED, VIKING WOMEN AND THE SEA SERPENT, WAR OF THE COLOSSAL BEAST, THE UNDEAD and THE COOL AND THE CRAZY.

SNOW WHITE AND THE HUNTSMAN---Cedric Nicolas-Troyan, the second-unit director/visual effects editor for the original movie, will replace director Frank Darabont (THE WALKING DEAD) who left for creative differences. The movie will be a prequel which tells how the Huntsman met the evil Ravenna.

NIGHT WILL FALL---HBO documentary about Alfred Hitchcock's unfinished documentary about the Allied liberation of Nazi concentration camps at the end of World War II. Premiere is January 26. Brett Ratner is the producer.

EXTRACTION---Bruce Willis stars in this movie about an ex-CIA agent and his CIA agent son who have developed a super weapon code-named Condor. After his father is kidnapped, the son must rescue him which leads to uncovering a massive conspiracy.

LEANN & EDDIE---VH1 canceled the reality series starring LeAnn Rimes and Eddie Cibrian.

Condor? Pretty cliched. How about code name "Platypus" or something?

Any interest I had in Episode VII is now gone.

I sincerely think people have so much of their egos invested in Star Wars that no matter WHAT Abrams produces, they’ll drink it up only because it isnt Lucas. People want the McDonalds toad burger because of the McDonalds name, not because they care about what it’s made from.

Christ, people are f*cking idiots. All they want to be stimulated, even if it lacks vision or intent.

I'm hoping an X-Files miniseries will have an episode written by Darin Morgan, though seeing as how he only wrote 'monster-of-the-week' episodes and this will likely deal with tying up the alien invasion storyline, it's probably too much to hope for.

Yeah, fuck them. How dare they not continue to use such winning ideas as centering a movie around an annoying kid, paper thin characters, Jar Jar Binks, midi-chlorians, unbuyable love between a youn guy and older woman, etc.

I'm sure George had more of these stunning ideas.

Seriously though, does anyone know if it's Disney's plan to exclude Lucas *completely* from the creative process? I know a lot of angry, bitter people who disliked the prequels would love that, but to me, Episode VII would be just "pseudo-Star Wars" if that were to happen. To me, it's not the real thing without George Lucas being involved creatively in some way.

I was joking with a friend recently that any cool spy program/password/satellite in movies always has a cool name, like Cobalt, or Icarus.

In other words, Daniel Craig won't be uncovering SPECTRE's "Project Blanche" in the next Bond flick. big grin

Kathleen Kennedy is still in charge of LucasFilm (for Disney) on the strong advice of Lucas because he felt she knows him and the Star Wars universe better than anyone. After selling the company he put Star Wars in her trust. In other words she now speaks for Lucas. Besides whats the point in selling the property, which he did because he wanted to retire just to get knee deep into production again?

Disney rejecting Lucas's ideas is another good sign that this will be a better film than the prequels.
