Did I imagine it? I seem to recall seeing Giacchino's score for SPEED RACER at Family Dollar. Have any of you guys seen it at FD?

It wasn't on the list of finds from 2 1/2 years ago. But it may have shown up in some stores subsequently.

Yes, I actually picked up a copy for a co-worker over the holidays (a long with a few others), but I did not realize it was not on the first batch list. I visited a few Family Dollars and the Varese titles are very, very, very limited. I think the ones I found were just lost in the changing and condensing of the other CD displays, because I had to dig through the old rock and R&B CDs to find them.

I heard Dollar General bought out Family Dollar. I don't know what kind of changes they will make, but Dollar General isn't carrying any Varese CD's.

I'm glad you brought that up, Justin, because I've been meaning to ask.... Family Dollar is apparently buying out Dollar Tree... now, I don't know how "big bidness" works, but I'm thinking that if Family Dollar DOES acquire the Dollar Tree chain, wouldn't it seem logical that one of the things they would do is to put inventory from the Family DOLLAR stores that isn't selling, in the Dollar TREE stores, and - of course - mark them down to a dollar? If so, I'm thinking that once this deal goes through, we could quite possibly start seeing those Varese titles in Dollar Tree! Thoughts?

I see now, Dollar General lost out in their bid. Shareholders didn't agree to DG getting them and voted against it.

I only have DOLLAR TREE in my area, so the $1.00 Varese CD's would be most welcome.

Been very envious of you all that have been lucky to live in a geographically desirable area for that.

This isn't a Varese cd, but I saw Henry Jackman's Monsters vs. Aliens at Family Dollar for $6. That was the only score soundtrack, but there was also Top Gun and the song album for the first Twilight. I only had time to visit one location, so there may or may not be other score cds at various locations. I did not find any Varese cds at the location I visited.

I was at the Family Dollar in Watertown, NY in May this year and picked up the following at $3 a piece:

American Gangster (Marc Streitenfeld)
Doom (Clint Mansell)
Fly Me to the Moon (Ramin Djawadi)
Fly, The / Fly II, The (Howard Shore, Christopher Young)
Other Boleyn Girl, The (Paul Cantelon)
Shrek the Third (Harry Gregson-Williams)

No sign of Speed Racer though.

I popped into one randomly outside of Wildwood, NJ on vacation this summer and picked up one of my "wants" from the Family Dollar drop - "24: Redemption" by Callery for $3. There were plenty of other albums there, but I either already had them or wasn't interested.

So there are plenty still out there, if you find a Family Dollar in your zone.

Those CD's are supplied to us from an outside vendor, I don't think Dollar Tree uses the same 3rd party vendor. I'm trying to order a new batch for my location and will see what happens. But after so long, it'd likely be just more of the same titles shifted around
