THE DESPERATE MISSION aka JOAQUIN MURIETA.

Not to take anything away from Robert Drasnin, but what do you think?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tlbulZyi07g

The whole score and cue at 41:17 is very in the vein of 100 RIFLES / BANDOLERO.

Our own Bob DiMucci offered this info and great poster a couple of years ago to the board. Thanks Bob!

The television movie western "Desperate Mission" was produced by 20th Century Fox in 1969. It starred Ricardo Montalban as Mexican bandit-folk hero Joaquin Murieta. But instead of being shown on television, the film was first exhibited theatrically outside the U.S. in late 1969 and 1970 under the title JOAQUIN MURIETA. It finally aired under its original title on NBC on 3 December 1971. Sources differ on who scored the film, with both Robert Drasnin and Jerry Goldsmith being named.

You know, it doesn't sound anything like Jerry of that period in terms of the string writing. It sounds like Drasnin was occasionally channeling Jerry's percussive side, but really the themes are much more Drasnin than Goldsmith.

I kind of agree Bruce. It sounds like "Jerry Lite" without the more lush strings.

He is credited as the composer on the opening titles at 3:33appox

BMI credits Mr. Drasnin as the sole composer on this film.

IMDB credits him as composer as well.

So unless you have a Cue Sheet or a written score from this film that says otherwise, he's the person who scored the film.

NOT JERRY GOLDSMITH.

You go to his official website and ask him a question in the "Guestbook" section about it if you wish

http://www.robertdrasnin.net

He is on FACEBOOK as well

https://www.facebook.com/robert.drasnin?fref=ts

So if you are still wondering, ask the man yourself.

I was looking at differing written sources when I mentioned the issue regarding the composer. But now that we can see the credits on the film itself and hear the music, it's apparent it isn't Goldsmith.

Thanks Bob. Credit where credit is due! Maestro Drasnin has done a multitude of marvelous work over the years and is a wonderful composer!

I really like his score from the PLAYHOUSE 90 Episode of HEART OF DARKNESS starring Roddy Mcdowall. Some really beautiful stuff there!

In addition to Robert Drasnin, the IMDB also credits Aaron Rosenberg with the film's music, which the IMDB assumes is some different Aaron Rosenberg than the one that executive-produced the film. Go figure.

The credit to Jerry Goldsmith in is Alvin H. Marill's book Movies Made for Television. Goldsmith did provide the music for four films produced by Aaron Rosenberg: FATE IS THE HUNTER (1964), SHOCK TREATMENT (1964), MORITURI (1965), and THE DETECTIVE (1968).

He's not credited with anything from this film or anything else at either BMI or ASCAP.

I would assume that ti's IMDB screw up, which is far from unheard of.

there was a score conducted by Jerry Goldsmith ( uncredited Musical director) Jacquin Murieta not staring Ricardo Montalban but David Jansen with music by Patrick Williams which is a different film from the one mentioned distributed by Avco Embassy.

SORRY FORD I AM LOOSING IT BIG TIME ( and anyone else who read my piece of misinformation)
I confused myself - the film I was thinking of was MACHO CALLAHAN (1970) composed by Pat( Patrick) Williams
This sounds very much like Goldsmith but I do not think he composed any music for it. But back to Jacquin Murrieta
I have seen a credit somewhere giving (musical director Jerry Goldsmith) I will have to have a look for it.
SORRY again
