I watched George Stevens THE DIARY OF ANNE FRANK on Sunday. It seemed appropriate for the eve of Holocaust Day. In my opinion the film is not the best interpretation of the story but it’s still very moving due largely to Alfred Newman's perfect score. My DVD has the original Overture and Exit music. I've never seen the film in the cinema but it looked as if the Intermission followed the Hanukkar sequence when the group sing together. Can anyone confirm this? Kind regards, Frank.
Yes you are correct. The intermission was including in later vhs and laser versions. But wasn't included in any dvd version supposedly at the request of George Stevens jr.

yes, the dvds are always missing the Intermission music AND the exit music for Act One
Also incorrect is the placement of the Overture. It should be played so the last 15 seconds overlap the Fox Logo. that is why the fox logo now appears with no sound.

Oh My Goodness! That must have been pretty awesome in the cinema.
I remember the TV prints in which the 20th Century-Fox logo had a weird recording of the fanfare that was heavy on the bass drum - perhaps recorded overseas during the musicians' strike? I can post it if anyone is interested.
On the other hand, this is truly THE Newman score of the period that needs to be released in full.
