OK it hasn't happened yet but I've got this little lump on my gums that comes & goes and I'm going to the dentist Monday and dreading over what if I know me will be that thing in the subject title that I'venever haddonebefore but I'm game to film musically describe what I am and may be going through. Right now I'm hearing & seeing Steve Martin in that awful scene in the plant movie. Somebody help me out!
PS the first person who says anything connected to Zell is gonna get their head handed to 'em
Oh well, it's not at all painful (with all the stuff they inject into you), but it's not much fun having someone's fingers in your mouth for half an hour...& of course the sound of the drill.
When I had root canal work done a few years ago, I was in the chair for over an hour, at an awkward head downwards angle. Afterwards, I had difficulty getting out of the chair and my lower back hurt a lot ...
... but the dentist reckoned I'd fallen asleep during that time and there was no noticeable pain re: the dental work.
But then I have an excellent dentist whom I'm happy to visit.
So: I'd suggest you think of some nice soothing music and hope you drift away like me!

This was pretty much my experience. I barely knew it was going on. But I can no longer play the violin.
Trust me and don't use soft 'relaxing' music. It will just be overwhelmed by the sound of the drill and get totally wasted. When I had dental work done I listened to a Jerry Goldsmith action mix and it worked wonders.
I had been intensely afraid of root canals my whole life. And last year I finally had to get one done.
Let me tell you: though it took much longer than a cavity filling, the procedure it's self was WAY more comfortable. The last hour in the chair (I had to go back for a second visit), I was almost falling asleep in the chair. 9/10ths of the discomfort is in the first ten minutes or so, once you're part that it's easy.

Twisted Nerve seems appropriate. Or maybe the score from the dentistry scenes from Marathon Man? ??
Howard, can't think of any music for this. I just made sure the dentist had oceans of Novocain and laughing gas. I sucked on the gas for a while before the first Novocain shot. I was totally relaxed and pain free through the whole procedure. My brother makes his dentist bring the gas to the sidewalk before he even goes in. LOL. Good luck.
