I'm surprised that no one's mentioned the distinct undercurrent of Barry-ish brass throughout the score and particularly in the first track of the CD. Not unwelcome, mind you. I can't quite tell you which Bond score was in the temp track (I leave that to the experts here) but I'd bet my bottom dollar it was very deliberately referenced. Any theories?

I didn't notice any Barry references at all to be honest..... which is probably why I liked the score so much smile

I have happy news for you, Mike. You're becoming a John Barry fan via subliminal manipulation.

Well the same therapy could probably make me enjoy lamb dishes, convince me to vote UKIP, turn me from a non-smoker to a nicotine addict, make me love dogs and get me to wear my jeans like Justine Bieber. None of which any normal person would do without subliminal suggestion.

You don't like lamb dishes? My God - it's worse than I thought!

Lamb is ok to wear, and potentially as a sexual partner in times of severe loneliness. But as a dish I hate it. Beef, chicken, pork and alligator are all fine.. But lamb, yuck.

What about lamb's liver? Are you a big girl's blouse about that too? smile

I wasn't terribly bothered about seeing this from the trailer but I'm intrigued now.

And in fact saw it over the weekend. Some thoughts are on the recently seen films thread, but overall, a few points, including spoilers...

Liked the score - a pastiche rather than a parody, I thought, if you interpret a parody as a piss-take. It took itself seriously in the context of the film and included elements of both Bond and Austin Powers (yes, itself a parody, I know).

Didn't like Samuel L Jackson's lisp. It might have worked if it had been consistent, but it was all over the place. Several times one word with two "s" sounds included both a lisp and normal pronunciation. I ended up having to consciously stop playing sibilant bingo, as it was affecting my enjoyment of the film.

The odd cliche - for example, the final reject in the recruitment process turning up on the villain's side. That was a real spoiler so I covered it up just in case.

The comic book violence was okay for me, including the church scene. It was the modern equivalent of Tom & Jerry. As was the spectacular climax.

Didn't like the parody of the end of many Bond films. I know it was meant as a joke, but for me it fell flat and added an unwelcome slant. Like they care about what I think!

I visited the Kingsman HQ on business many times in its day-job incarnation as Huntsman, Savile Row tailors, and enjoyed seeing it again all these years later. Was never able to afford a suit from there, sadly.

Finally, I hate pugs. Not their fault, but over-bred mini-monstrosities with no discernible point. I'd have shot it with no hesitation, and when finding it was a blank, might have beaten it to death with the pistol.

Great fun best action movie

Colin Firth's performance as an action man is nothing short of a revelation. When the impeccably-suited Harry first meets Eggsy while the latter is a young boy, he gives him a medal bearing an engraved telephone number, for whenever Eggsy is in dire circumstances
