FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 20

SPECTRE---photo of Daniel Craig and Monica Bellucci filming a funeral scene in Rome in the latest James Bond movie.

BATMAN v SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE---director Zack Snyder released a photo confirming Jason Momoa will play Aquaman in the sequel. A standalone Aquaman movie will be released in 2018.

EDWARD SNOWDEN---Timothy Olyphant (JUSTIFIED) wil co-star in the untitled Oliver Stone movie about NSA leaker Edward Snowden. Olyphant will play a CIA agent. Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Shailene Woodley also star.

WAYWARD PINES---trailer released for the Fox series from M. Night Shyamalan in which a Secret Service agent investigates a small Idaho town where two other agents mysteriously disappeared. Matt Dillon and Carla Gugino star. Premiere is May 14.

FIFTY SHADES OF GREY---EL James is in negotiations with Universal Pictures to have creative control over the sequel script. Kelly Marcel, who clashed with James while writing the script for the original movie, and director Sam Taylor-Johnson are not expected to return for the sequel.

TWO AND A HALF MEN---creator Chuck Lorre explained why Charlie Sheen wasn't in the series finale,
"I know a lot of you might be disappointed that you didn't get to see Charlie Sheen in tonight's finale. For the record he was offered a role. Our idea was to have him walk up to the front door in the last scene, ring the doorbell, then turn, look directly into the camera and go off on a maniacal rant about the dangers of drug abuse. He would then explain that these dangers only apply to average people. That he was far from average. He was a ninja warrior from Mars. He was invincible. And then we would drop a piano on him. We thought it was funny. He didn't. Instead, he wanted us to write a heart-warming scene that would set up his return to primetime TV in a new sitcom called The Harpers starring him and Jon Cryer. We thought that was funny too."

MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE 5---filming in London was halted for a week so Tom Cruise, director Christopher McQuarrie and an uncredited writer could come up with a new ending after the original ending was deemed "unsatisfactory".

X-MEN: APOCALYPSE---Evan Peters commented on if he's returning as Quicksilver for the movie, “I think so, yes. I assume it as well, but I don’t know what I’m supposed to say and not supposed to say. I haven’t seen a script.”

DRIVERLESS CAR RACE---untitled Gore Verbinski/Sony Pictures action comedy movie in which competing software companies enter driverless cars in a transcontinental race from Paris to Beijing. Pandemonium breaks out when the cars go off grid and the human passengers attempt to take control of the cars and finish the race.

LUCIFER---Fox pilot underway based on the DC Comic in which a bored Lucifer resigns as the Lord of Hell and heads to Los Angeles to help the police battle criminals. Len Wiseman (LIVE FREE OR DIE HARD) is the director.

RONAN FARROW DAILY---MSNBC cancelled the show hosted by Ronan Farrow, son of Mia Farrow, due to low ratings. The latest ratings gave the show only 11,000 viewers.

THE BURNING WOMAN---Anne Hathaway is in talks to star in this movie set in a Pennsylvania town where a woman must raise her infant grandson after her daughter vanishes.

SONS OF SOLDIERS---movie underway by Richard Donner (LETHAL WEAPON) about a high school football team at Fort Campbell, Kentucky and the impact of their parents in the Army has on the team.

I take it this was deliberately put on the bottom line for added effect? Is Donner not directing?

MI5 - So far only the odd numbers have been worth anything. Third time odd might be one odd too many - ha ha.

GRECCHUS:

Donner is a co-producer. It didn't mention that he was directing.

Thanks, Dragon. I did look up Donner and saw he's been producing more ofter than not. I must have been dreaming, or something. wink

By the way, some time ago you posted about the Midway production. Remember, we had a chat about the carrier art by R.G. Smith:

Whatever happened to the production?

GRECCHUS:

The 3D Midway movie was developed by Bruce McKenna (BAND OF BROTHERS) with Warner Bros. fastracking it.
Over the years, I've tried to get updates but found nothing, so apparently Warner Bros. changed their mind and shelved it without announcing it. The same may be true for the Battle of Britain movie by Robert Towne (CHINATOWN) and Tom Cruise's Flying Tigers movie. The Tiger tank/monster movie PANZER 88 by Gary Kurtz (STAR WARS) is still in development and maybe helped a little by the success of FURY.

In case I never mentioned it before, RG Smith not only painted the SBD Dauntless dive bombers at the Battle of Midway, but he helped design the Dauntless when he was an engineer at Douglas Aircraft.
The painting shows the Dauntless flown by Richard Best dropping the bomb that doomed the aircraft carrier Akagi which was Admiral Nagumo's flagship at Midway and Pearl Harbor. Best was the unsung hero who played a very important role at Midway.
I have a model of Best's Dauntless.

I like scale models too, but don't have the space. I have to rely more on computer game simulations for any references.

This sim is very well known and something in which one can become quite immersed:

You can sit in the SBD (with several other vintage aircraft) and attempt landings on large carriers with expansive deck surfaces or escort carriers with significantly reduced runway space. The sort of thing movies can't do for you.

These screenshots are for a model developed for FSX:

We're almost at a point where even a home computer sim has the power to generate instantaneous art of it's own.

Thanks. Those video games look cool, but my pc is probably too fouled up to play them.

It seems the WB/D.C. are trying way too hard to make all of their characters like Bat Man: grim & joyless (trying to ape Marvel's 80's books?), it works for Bat Man. I hope this new Man of Steel film is good & does well or it may well end D.C.'s superhero films for quite awhile.

They said they're sure whether Blofeld will be in "SP.E.C.T.R.E.". is this true?

FILMUSICNOW:

Christoph Waltz commented on rumors that he's playing Blofeld, "The character is called Franz Oberhauser. That’s a fact. I can guarantee." He later added, "It’s more interesting than that."

Others rumors say Oberhauser is an alias for Blofeld, Blofeld is an alias for Oberhauser and Monica Bellucci is playing Blofeld.

Anyways, I thought Blofeld had an ear job? No doubt, aided and abetted by the henchman in the picture . . . Blo Job, who does the master's bidding of making sure SPECTRE is shown respect.

This sounds like the same thing we went through with Star Trek Into Darkness...all press and promo materials said Benedict Cumberbatch was playing John Harrison, but everyone knew he was really Khan.

Anyone else getting a serious "On Her Majesties Secret Service" vibe from this new movie? It would be a perfect time to re-incorporate that story into this new Bond timeline.
