Not sure if film music fans have heard of this film but I would recommend Barry fans and perhaps Morricone fans sampling the gorgeous 70s style orchestral score by Cats Eyes. Although the film may not appear to be to everyone's tastes I would thoroughly recommend it as a stunning piece of film making. Essentially a love story with a kinky side! Beautifully photographed and acted and has a period countryside setting. But the score is quite lovely. It is on LP and download only.
Agreed. I haven't seen the film itself yet, but this is a very good score and it more or less came out of nowhere. It's beautifully arranged and consistently interesting musically. The composers, Cat's Eyes, cite several mid-twentieth century film composers as their influence for this score, and for me there are definitely shades of Ennio Morricone's "L'assoluto naturale" here, which is a very good thing indeed.
You can stream the entire soundtrack and watch a video of the wonderful Main Title song here:
It's really, really terrific to see a vintage-inspired filmmaker intelligently directing two composers to write a "throwback" score rather than just needle dropping old tracks the way Tarantino does.
Awesome! I love that this little soundtrack is getting a little love on FSM! Great comments and comparison, folks! And the final piece "Coat of Arms" leaves me in such a lovely and melancholy way.
Yes, "Coat of Arms" is gorgeous. Can't wait to see the film in a few weeks, and great to know Milan is releasing the score on CD. Just bought their release of It Follows, and will be buying this too.
