Menken's score for this Documentary on ABRAHAM LINCOLN is just brilliant.

I love John Williams' score for the Spielberg Film as well, but coming many years before Williams' take on the material, it's a stunning, passionate and powerful achievement by Alan Menken and one of my favorite scores by him.

Menken's work is really wonderful and I strongly recommend this CD to all! So great.

For these photo booth recorded sound samples please adjust your own sound levels accordingly for best performance. Music on CD itself sounds awesome.

The first Track on the CD entitled: HARDIN COUNTY - OPENING

A great Track Cue entitled: OUR CHILDREN'S CHILDREN

Another great Track Cue entitled: GREAT EVENTS

Agree! GREAT score. Would love to have another version that has the music minus the narration. Maybe a 2 CD set. First CD the one we all have and the second with NO narration just music.

This is a side of Mr. Menken we don't get to hear as much from as we should.

Agreed. A really excellent score by Menken.

I wasn't even aware of this, thanks for the heads-up (although I have no idea where to get the score -- I'm guessing it's hard to find)!

It's yours for 1 Red American Lincoln Head Cent right here Thor! A used very good condition copy. Shipping may kill you though!

I purchased when it first came out. It's worth every cent indeed. And more.

Narration is a no buy for me. I don't see how this ever seems like a good idea.

How much of the album has narration? (I know I know, it's only a penny, but since I don't know the documentary, I'm only interested in the music.)

To answer about the content of the album with score and narration.

Out of 35 tracks on CD, 20 are pure Alan Menken score

then 5 Tracks contain narration with music scored by Menken

leaving 10 tracks of traditional Civil War era music.

The 20 tracks with pure Menken and the 5 including narration are truly worth the price of admission!

You will not be disappointed with this buy.

The tracks with narration feature the brilliant voice of Jason Robards as Abraham Lincoln and are a joy to listen to. The music with his voice is thrilling and powerful.

Don't hesitate to grab this gem!

Belated thanks for this rundown, Zooba. (Lost track of this thread for a while there.) I'm going for it for sure.

Just picked this up for $4 at a used book shop, years after giving up on ever being able to hear it. I'm three tracks in and adoring every measure!

I've always been a fan of this one. The narration is a bit annoying, though.
