La-La Land Records, in association with Sony Music and Universal Pictures, presents the glorious return of our previously-out-of-print, remastered and expanded 2-CD SET of Academy Award-Winning composer John Williams’ (JAWS, BLACK SUNDAY, STAR WARS, RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK) amazing score to the 1979 Universal Pictures and Columbia Pictures comedy spectacular 1941, starring Dan Aykroyd, Ned Beatty, John Belushi and Warren Oates, and directed by Steven Spielberg. Williams provides a delightful, full-on orchestra assault (featuring one of the most infectious marches ever written for film) to compliment this cult-classic’s slapstick tapestry of WWII-era paranoia exploding in Hollywood. Produced by Mike Matessino, Didier C. Deutsch and Mark G. Wilder, remixed and assembled by Mike Matessino and mastered by Mark G. Wilder, this special release is expanded by more than 70 minutes with never-before-released music, including alternates and source cues. THE SCORPION KING 4: QUEST FOR POWER: LIMITED EDITION LLLCD 1339
Music by Geoff Zanelli
Limited Edition of 1500 Units
RETAIL PRICE: $15.98

La-La Land Records and Backlot Music present the CD soundtrack album for The Scorpion King 4: Quest for Power, Universal Pictures’ action/adventure feature starring Victor Webster and Lou Ferrigno. The soundtrack features 20 new score cues by Emmy Award-winning composer Geoff Zanelli (“Mortdecai,” “Into the West” miniseries). The film is currently available on Blu-Ray, DVD and Digital HD.

Zanelli has become a standout in the film and television scoring industry, garnering accolades and recognition for his work since going solo after numerous collaborations with Academy Award-winning composer Hans Zimmer.

Zanelli had a fond experience working with director Mike Elliot, saying, “What gives this movie its identity and sets it apart is the way it uses humor to challenge the clichés and gender stereotypes that can keep a fantasy film from feeling fresh, or fun, or original.” With respect to the score, he goes on to say, “I tried to imbue the score with gravitas and play to the epic nature of the story. But whenever I’d start to get pretentious or too self-important, my director [Elliot] would say something like, ‘Geoff, please don’t forget that there are two grown women in tattered clothes having a cage fight in this movie.’ There’s a dragon, too.”

Produced by Geoff Zanelli and MV Gerhard and mastered by Patricia Sullivan at Bernie Grundman Mastering, with art design by Dan Goldwasser, this is a limited edition of 1500 Units.

MORTDECAI LLLCD 1342
Music by Geoff Zanelli and Mark Ronson
RETAIL PRICE: $15.98

La-La Land Records is proud to announce the CD release of MORTDECAI – ORIGINAL MOTION PICTURE SOUNDTRACK. The album features the original score and songs to the new feature film, MORTDECAI, starring Johnny Depp, Gwyneth Paltrow and Ewan McGregor, and directed by David Koepp opening on Jan. 23, 2015.

Emmy-Award Winning composer Geoff Zanelli and Grammy-award winning producer-musician Mark Ronson join forces to compose the pitch perfect score and songs to this delightful new comedy in which Johnny Depp portrays debonair art dealer and part time rogue, Charlie Mortdecai, who must traverse the globe in a race to recover a stolen painting rumored to contain the code to a lost bank account filled with Nazi gold.

Together, Zanelli and Ronson have created an amazing and rich musical experience for MORTDECAI – one that marries the charm and zest of 60’s pop with sharp, contemporary sensibilities.

“A few years ago, I heard Mark Ronson’s great Version album,” says MORTDECAI director David Koepp. “I was developing the script for MORTDECAI… and those tracks quite naturally found their way onto the playlist I’d made for writing and thinking times.”

Of pairing the celebrated musicians, Koepp remarked, “I had the idea to create a two-headed monster, pairing Mark Ronson with Geoff Zanelli, an accomplished Hollywood veteran… I will speak without blushing about the resultant piece of work, because it is wholly theirs and not mine – Mark and Geoff have written a score that’s worthy of [inspiration Henry] Mancini.”

For those that don't already own 1941, PICK IT UP. If you are a fan of film music, this needs to be in every collectors collections.

Dying Of The Light by Frederik Wiedman is a composer who actually stands on his own with his own unique sound and voice. This guy is definitely going places, same can be said for Williams above, he's definitely going places!

Thanks, Jason. Saw that but the wording about the liner notes had me wondering if some revamping of them was done at all.

Slightly off-topic since it's not strictly about the score itself, I see that the standalone Blu-ray of 1941 will be released with only the theatrical cut, but also with deleted scenes as extras. Was the extended cut assembly of the film, previously available as a special edition DVD, just a studio assembly from those deleted elements, or was Spielberg involved in the extended cut? If he was, it's a shame it won't make its way over to the Blu-ray. Anyone have their preference?

The stand alone blu-ray does contain both the theatrical version and the extended version -- at least according to the images of the disc itself posted on Amazon. If you enlarge the back cover photo, you'll see that both are included:

http://www.amazon.com/1941-Blu-ray-John-Belushi/dp/B00TF7KY96/ref=sr_1_1_twi_2_twi_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1425932077&sr=8-1&keywords=1941

The back cover says the theatrical version clocks in at 1 hr 59 min -- the extended at 2 hrs. 26 min.

Sweet, thank you for this! A couple of pieces I had read indicated it wouldn't contain both. I should never assume. You make an... ugh. smile

This will be the same Blu-Ray disc found within the Spielberg Collection boxed set released last October. The two versions are seamlessly branched.

Note that the box sets in all other regions have two separate discs for "1941," with each version on its own disc. I'm not sure if the standalone versions are being released that way in other regions, but fans should note the quality is better on them; the video bit rate is higher and it's the only way to hear the full extended edition mix (which is different in places). The US (branched) version uses the theatrical cut as the common data stream.

OK wow, that's a fascinating piece of information. I'll have to import a foreign copy of the Extended Cut then!
