Yes, Bill, it was re-titled Never Give an Inch for it's UK release, and evidently in some other parts of the world as well. Sometimes a Great Notion was the title of Ken Kesey's book; I recall having some difficulty getting hold of the Henry Mancini s/t album on Decca Records at the time, since it was only released in the US and the "specialist" soundtrack store in London back then didn't seem too interested in importing it. Eventually a good friend in Texas helped me out...
I remember the title mainly for the derision it received from the grammar-trooper high school English teachers I knew at the time.
This may be old hat by now (and apologies to Bill and jackfu if they already know) but as I remember, Ken Kesey took the title of his novel from the old song standard "Goodnight Irene", where the first verse goes like -
"Sometimes I live in the country; sometimes I live in the town; SOMETIMES I have A GREAT NOTION to jump into the river and drown".
Amazing the things one remembers; it must be more than forty years since I read that paperback!
