I believe the "new" recording of FISTFUL is here available for the first time as a physical CD - previously only available as a lossy digital download. Expensive, if like me you already have the other two! I was disappointed that their re-recording of "Fistful" never got a physical release, to release it now as a box set is rather annoying, when I like you have already purchased the other two cd's. However I think I can persuade myself to purchase this when it becomes available. It's not Morricone's original versions, but I've given up on ever seeing a complete For A Few Dollars More on cd. To be fair, a lot of the tracks are very well done, I've been surprised how many times I find myself listening to these re-recordings in lieu of the originals.

I hadn't picked up any of the individual discs, so when I saw this for a little over $20, I ordered it. It should show up sometime next week. I've been following the feedback the original CDs had gotten on the other threads, so I know what I'm getting into.

How faithful are these recordings?

I bought the double disc pair of FOR A FEW DOLLARS MORE and DANGER: DIABOLIK. I have to say, I was taken aback by how good DIABOLIK was and impressed but less blown away by DOLLARS. If I want to listen to DOLLARS, I go to the OST rather than this for the most part. I am surprised by how good these were, don't get me wrong, as I'd imagined them being hard-to-impossible to recreate faithfully, but you can still tell they're being recorded by another band and are not the originals. For the most part, DOLLARS holds up, but sometimes you think, "Nah, I need to play the originals for this track." I'll buy it though. The DOLLARS/DIABOLIK set was really, really cheap. It looks like this one is too. Cheers

Have to say I'm pretty impressed with these re-recordings. Astonishing that they even get close to the originals. In the absence of complete stereo releases of the originals these are a pretty good substitute. A little naughty to not release A Fistful Of Dollars as a single CD though.

I want to get this, but it's not out until 7th April on Amazon UK. Is it in a proper 4-CD clamshell / jewel case box, or some sort of digipack thingy? I've just ordered a copy from Amazon Italy for £12.66. and that includes shipping. I'll let you know what it's packed in, as soon as it arrives. It should/probably won't, be here by Friday

As we said before, the quality of these re-recordings are good, bad and in parts, ugly. If ever there were three scores that were special because if the unique performers who collaborated on the original recordings in 64-66, it is the Dollars films. The combined efforts of Morricone, Alessandroni, nicolai, edda del orso, gianna spagnulo, franco de gemini, Bruno d'amario, franco catania, franco Cosacchi, michele lacerenza, et al - all geniuses in their own fields whose talents came to their peak on these three recordings and made them what they were. A meeting of minds like this is part of history and cannot be replicated. And such breathtaking serendipity should count for more appreciation over a few missing tracks. Just my opinion only, for what its worth. The new recordings and their orchestration are not awful but anyone unfamiar with the scores should listen to track samples on itunes or something to these and the originals and not compare, just hear the difference.

I pre-ordered this set on Amazon and have been waiting for the price to drop down. It is currently listed at $29.99 on Amazon but I thought I read it was supposed to be cheaper. I still have time to cancel the order if it is supposed to be significantly cheaper. I've just ordered a copy from Amazon Italy for £12.66. and that includes shipping.
