In the beginning, it was always a tie between the Life & Death theme and the Raft (Parting Words) theme for me. I also really liked the Hollywood & Vine theme (reminded me of JW) but his main island theme was too close to a theme from Amistad for me to really dig. But recently, I've been really loving the two themes that dominated the last two series. The Jabob/Temple theme is ace and I love the theme first associated with Richard (tracks like Richard The None and Love In A Time Of Pneumonia). Just great stuff. By the finale of the series, MG was firing off quality themes left and right (the main reason I stuck with it to the bitter end). What themes do you rate from this brilliantly scored series?
The CD from the final episode plays as a perfect run-through of the series' themes. I love all ten CDs which have been released, but I do find some of the discs drag in places now that the series has been gone for nearly 5 years. "The End" still gets a lot of playtime for me, as does Season 1 and 5.
No particular favourite themes, but a shout-out to the general ambiance of the music for this show. I'm not a fan of Giacchino or the music on CD, but he nailed the music in-context here.
Desmond's theme, Richard's theme, Jacob's theme. All fantastic.
When Ben's theme transformed from a snarl into its piano setting at the end of "The Man Behind the Curtain" I knew the music from the show was truly special, that there was real thematic complexity at work in addition to the beautiful setpieces from the first couple seasons.
Sideways Desmond's theme struck me as a theme that's deceptively simple, but which gets broken up and varied a LOT throughout the final season, culminating in the amazing "Get Out of Jail Free Card."

I loved ALL the themes from this brilliantly-scored show. I wish the CD releases had left off more of the action/horror music (brilliant in the show but a little goes a long way on disc) and included more developments of all the gorgeous thematic material.
I'll give a shout out in particular to the love themes in the show, particularly those for Desmond/Penny and Sun/Jin. Gorgeous.
I love so many themes from Lost, but there have always been two that tower above all the rest:
1. Hurley's Secondary Theme -- best heard in "Mess It All Up" from Season 2. Achingly poignant and moving, it basically begins at 0:19 and goes through a few variations throughout the track's runtime. Hurley's Secondary Theme can also be found in "Closure", "The Lone Hugo", "Smokey and the Bandits", "The Swinging Bendulum", and "Temple and Spring".
2. The Light Theme -- my favorite variation of the Light Theme is found in the track "Love Is Stronger Than Death" from Season 6 (Final Episodes). Mysterious, delicate, and somewhat magical, it essentially begins at 1:20 and runs to the end, going through a few variations with piano and light airy synth work. The Light Theme can also be heard in "Across the Sea", "Aloha", "Down the Hobbit Hole", and a few others.
Anyone have any suggestions for a “greatest hits” playlist (to borrow from one of the show’s episode titles) that would fill the length of one CD? I really want to familiarize myself more with this music, but don’t have the time or patience to sit thru 10 discs worth (not saying it wouldn’t be worth it). I know personal preferences are subjective, but I figure collectively there’s got to be a consensus of a dozen or so tracks that are definite standouts?
Topic has come up before. Love the scene and music: Of Mice and Ben (Lost)... numerous characters, in different locations on the island are moving toward a gold. Scene shot like West Side Story, when all characters a going to the rumble singing...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=un6j3f6pPYI

Ha, I decided at one point to make a mix CD for the show, then decided I'd have to make one for seasons 1-3 and another for seasons 4-6, then expanded the second one to two discs because there was just too much great music. I just queued up some of the essential tracks off the top of my head and it added up to two and a half hours!
Here's a list narrowed down to CD length. It emphasizes the slower, more emotional cues and thematic showcases to the detriment of the more ambient and action-oriented aspects of the music, and totally short-changes seasons two and five, but it's just a taste after all.
