Let's hope the lion is not hungry for linen, or Dementred Coliseum fighters.

Didn't we have this one already, Zambra? Think we recently had it, but the poster looks different. (If my guess is correct). Alex

It has to be the second one, as no Richard Burton, & the arena background. The only arena in the first one is the very first shot where the curtain opens, which was in fact taken from the second film which had started filming before the first film was finished. It must be the only film that starts with a shot from its sequel (god, that would be a hard question in a film quiz). Jean Simmons was seen in the start walking to glory (or a messy death) with Richard Burton - Burton had an affair with (the lovely) Jean Simmons during filming, & at the same time was sleeping with Dawn Addams who was playing his sister. He was a bit of a randy old sod.

Oh...p'shaw! That's just Vic and Jean at RKO! And their old pal, Pascal, can't be far behind!

Burton had an affair with (the lovely) Jean Simmons during filming, & at the same time was sleeping with Dawn Addams who was playing his sister. He was a bit of a randy old sod. In "The Robe," Dawn Addams played Marcellus Gallio's bitter old flame, Junia, whom he encounters at the slave market (her only scene). Marcellus's sister, Lucia, was played by Pamela Robinson. Ah, right actress, wrong part. This taken from a biography of Burton, And God Created Burton by Tom Rubython. A huge thick book, & a great read, all the early stuff in Wales is as interesting as the Hollywood years. The Olympic amount of shagging is almost put the shade by the vast amount of alcohol he drunk, but then they all seemed to drink so much in those days.

An indelible childhood memory, repeated showings all week of ANDROCLES on "Million Dollar Movie," my introduction to a lot of good things, including Shaw and Alan Young and Elsa Lanchester and Robert Newton and Jean Simmons. And a wonderful, tuneful score by Frederick Hollander.
