Thunderbirds are GO!

The SUPERMARIONATION cult television classic leaps into the stratosphere of fun and excitement with Thunderbirds: The Complete Series! Operating from a top-secret island base in the year 2065, the team at International Rescue- intrepid Jeff Tracy and his valiant sons Scott, John, Virgil, Gordon, and Adam- engage in a never-ending humanitarian crusade to protect the innocent. Traveling via land, sea, air, and space in their fantastically advanced vehicles, the Tracys take on the most impossible of missions with courage, honor…and their greatest strength of all: the power of family.

The crown jewel of Gerry Anderson's visionary creative oeuvre, Thunderbirds promises audiences both young and young-at-heart an outstanding showcase of thrills, action, and adventure-with no strings attached (okay, maybe some strings.)

Blast off with the team at International Rescue in 5…4…3…2…1...

I think Ive seen the Thunderbirds movie many years ago on cable but never watched the television series. I had no idea this was an hour long show! (50 minutes plus commercials) Even Captain Scarlet was only 30 minutes, right?

The series was more adult than I expected. One of the Thunderbirds are attacked and crashed in the desert. The pilot hit his head and there's some blood. Tin-Tin is seen smoking back at base camp. The bad guys die. The characters are played serious without any silly jokes.

Considering the entire show is a "special effect" I was impressed with some of the camera movements too. I thought the camera would be locked-down for ease of filming the puppets and models.

The over sized heads didn't creep me out as much as I thought they would.

Yes, Captain Scarlet was around 30 minutes.
I believe Thunderbirds was originally planned as a 30 minute show, then expanded to 50 minutes. Not sure why, I'm sure the Anderson experts here, would know the reason. Out of all the puppet shows, Captain Scarlet was always my favourite.

Nope, nothing creepy about that.

A 50 minute show is pretty ambitious when you consider every shot is a special effect. I'm also a big fan of Captain Scarlet. Its the Gerry Anderson series I am most familiar with after Space 1999.

Yes, but I thought they (or we) only had "swell heads" in the metaphoric sense.

You get accustomed to puppet actors so it's the insert shots of real human hands that's disconcerting.
