Given that Vinyl is coming back selectively, I was thinking to myself, "How cool would it be to see the Expanded FSM and Intrada Star Trek releases get issued on LP." Heck, I'd even welcome reissues of the first three Trek scores, as we're seeing Jaws and E.T. with reprinted album covers.

Anyone else think there's a market for it?

I would defenetly welcome such LP releases. An LP-Version with selections of the LaLaL TOS-Set would be a dream.
If the movie scores would released again, I would only buy them if they would be expanded like the FSM cd`s.
Just to re-issue of the original lp`s isnt so interesting, because yxou can find the original pressings EVERYWERE for little money on ebay. Its a shame that universal simply just release JAWS, Godfather, ect just in the old form.

I'm a lifelong fan of Trek, Trek music and all of the Trek composers. I have all the blu-rays and DVDs, the original albums and the reissues.

I have zero interest in LP editions. I don't need the double-dip costs or the storage/playback hassles.

I feel that a 2 LP set of Star Trek The Motion Picture with the complete movie score spread across 2 platters, and with the 30 mins of Goldsmith's original, unused cues at the end. This might require 3 instead of 2 but who knows. It would be very limited and have eye candy packaging.

I think so. There's a market for nearly everything in one way or another.

For one thing, a vinyl pressing is one way to make sure that the audio content would have reasonable dynamics (compression being a hot topic around here lately).

Unfortunately, the last 10 years or so have seen very few vinyl pressing plants that are free from defective product right off their lines (impure vinyl, scratches, fingerprints, etc.).

Seconded.

I suspect there would (will?) be a market for that.

That market would not include me. But that shouldn't dissuade anybody.

Yes, as long as it's done properly and not the bog-standard 16-bit files run through a DAC and cut to vinyl.....

There is a market for the LP art, not the LP itself.
Gee, die already - again- LP.

Absolutely- I would love to see TMP make it onto vinyl again. The assumption that the market is just for the art is baseless.

I’ve made playlists for the original LP / CD tracks of the six original Star Trek films. It kind of blew my mind a bit when I realized that the last Star Trek movie LP that I bought was in 1986. I guess that means the last Star Trek LP of any kind I bought would have been Encounter at Farpoint. Wow.

Agreed. How many kiddies have an expensive Hi Fi set up? If they even own a turntable it's probably connected to their computer. Kinda defeats the purpose. Then there's the issue of the source material used for the pressings. For years many ppl have been saying they don't have storage space for little jewel cases (much less LP albums) and prefer DDL. I would say it's a marketing fad.

Yes, provided the sleeves equal or better this:

Good luck with that, prospective Star Trek vinyl releasers.

A lot of teenagers and young adults have turntables, and not USB turntables. "Vinyls" are a badge of honor for a young music lover, a symbol of integrity in music tastes. How much of this is posing, I really can't say. But the trend is legit.

"I like real music, me." You have no idea how much I want to punch people like that, young or old.

I almost went Jason LeBlanc on your erroneous vinyl pluralization, Schiffy, but then realized that you were talking about it as a pose. Phew.

I grew up listening to records, and only got out of the habit because the stores stopped selling them. Now that they're back, of course they are ridiculously overpriced, but the $1 bins are still filled with great, well-kept used stuff (I just got Patton out of there and it looked and played like new). The covers are also great for framing, especially if the vinyl is nicked and scratched to hell.

Gee, you are sooooooo out of touch with the outside world-obviously you don't like vinyl and know nothing about real vinyl collectors. LP never did die. It's just your own myopic mind that is kinda dead.

I don't understand why it ends up being another "ooh vinyl is for losers" pile on in a thread specifically about vinyl.

Oh wait, yeah I do. It's FSM.
