Stumbled across an interesting (to me) bit of trivia this morning.

Apparently, John Powell co-wrote a song that was in Friday the 13th Part VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan. Co-wrote with Bob Hayman, performed by The Koo, the song is called "Strike". Powell also played guitar and provided vocals for the song!

Bob Hayman provided vocals too, so I'm unsure whose voice is whose...

As a John Powell fan, thought this was an interesting find.

Enjoy! (or don't, if you aren't into the whole 80's music scene)

Thank you for this, Deputy! I'm a huge fan, both of the scores and the music itself. I had no idea about the John Powell connection. A fan of him, too. Sweet stuff!

Cool! I'm guessing that's either one of the songs that the rock n roll guitar chick is listening to? Or one that's played over the radio in the NY scenes?

Either way. Good find!

I'll let you know shortly. A friend of mine is even more obsessive about F13 than me. He'll know what scene it's in for sure.

I'm sure John Powell -- who reads these message boards frequently, don't you know? -- is embarrassed this was dredged up from the fringe of the interwebz...

Makes me wonder about the rest of his pre-film music rock-n-rolla days and what else he performed on...

My friend thinks the song is heard in the New York City diner, when Renny and Sean are running from Jason, with the "Welcome tuh New Yahk!" bit. Does that make sense?

You never know, maybe he likes it. It definitely fits the time period and works in the scene. Maybe not his most incredible piece but it works. (Confession: I'm a sucker sometimes for cheesy '80s songs.)

Yeah, it's not bad. Maybe that's why Powell has been semi-retired the past few years -- he's gettin' the band back together! smile
