This is tremendous, superlative, news -- I recall the thrill of: 1. Seeing the film way back in the day on its original release 2. Getting the original Phase 4 lp and cranking up the volume 3. Opening the Varese limited edition CD and my first listen -- also with volume cranked up a bit further. 4. Spinning the Pioneer LD with the isolated tracks engaged at an increased level no doubt (with thanks to Joe Caps for his work on the LD). 5. Playing the Arrow BluRay with the volume so high that my shelves shook. 6. Tearing open the Music Box edition and cranking the volume even higher. I'm sure I cleared my apartment of some pests that day. My neighbors may have to vacate their apartments when this beautiful baby hits my system. Just utterly wonderful! Thank you!

I expect to see my copies tomorrow, James. I'm not serious about that, but go ahead and mail them early if you wish. Why wait until June 15th? I have a history similar to John McMasters. I also had the Masters of Film Music CD (38 minute edit), the Unicorn reissue of the 38 minute edit, and the infamous boot, as well as VHS, laserdisc, DVD, MOD, and Blu-ray transfers of the film. I also hope that SODOM is going swimmingly.

Anyone think we'll ever see a Tadlow SPARTACUS re-recording? I'd love to see thst score get this kind of treatment. This would be interesting. Varèse was planning on recording a Spartacus with Jerry Goldsmith conducting, but they never got around to doing it. Given that I'm not a huge fan of Goldsmith's North recordings (Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? is a notable exception), maybe it isn't such a big loss that it never happened. But… there was a recording of what was apparently the original, harsher version of the Spartacus main title on the Silva compilation Warriors of the Silver Screen that was pretty damn badass. I'd love a new recording of Spartacus. As an epic, it would be a great companion piece to Lawrence of Arabia, The Fall of the Roman Empire, El Cid, Taras Bulba, Quo Vadis? and the rest.
