Here is Lauren Bacall hosting the costume design segment at the 1987 Oscars ceremony. It's all very 80s (get those mega ruffles and mullet hairstyles) and will probably look more than a tad cheesy to younger eyes, but I think it's staged with a certain panache and the band is really on top form.

My question is, does anyone know the music that is used throughout this sequence (starting around the 2 minute mark)? It sounds vaguely familiar, but I have a feeling it was specially composed...

I think it's an updated play on Irving Berlin's 'A Pretty Girl is Like a Melody', not played straight, but alluded to in variation. That was an old stalwart I'm told on fashion show catwalks centuries ago.

It does indeed bare a striking resemblance to "True Grit"! But doesn't it wander off into something else after that familiar opening phrase?
