Last night I had a dream.

I dreamt I was the producer and I'd decided that with the resurgence of vinyl, I was creating a deluxe vinyl box set of STAR TREK—THE MOTION PICTURE.

I envisaged the box set containing:

1. A perfect first edition replica of the original 1979 album issue with insert, but obviously from the updated music master

2. A double LP of the complete film score, using the revised cover art that we had on the CD, i.e. same Bob Peak art but with the film logo in the right place

3. A double LP of the alternate cues and bonus tracks, using some the alternate Bob Peak artwork

4. A perfect first edition replica of the singles tracks, as 45s

5. All the same liner notes and images but this time as a 12x12 (inches) deluxe, large-type, thick glossy papered affair

And when you open up each gatefold double LP sleeve, large HI-Q images of our beloved Enterprise.

Basically, all the contents of the 3CD set but laid out as described above.

I'll bet a few folks (albeit sadly only a few) would shell out for such a thing of beauty.

Cheers

I just want to hear the wind machine at the correct volume! (and not on an LP)

You're dreaming now.

I had a dream a few nights ago that Tim Burton held me captive in his house and when he drove to the shops Helena Bonham Carter set me free.

And if I really was the producer of such a thing Thor, I'd make a separately purchasable 4 track EP just for you.

Probably:

1. Main Title / Klingon Battle
2. Leaving Drydock
3. Ilia's Theme
4. The Enterprise

Not too much music for you, I hope.

:-)

Thor only has Freudian-school dreams.

Freud proposed a content in the psyche called 'the editor'.

A hearty endorsement of your grand vision Stephen, yet what we will most likely get is a double album with a mix of all the score tracks that aren't duplicated in better alternate takes, along with those better alternates substituting for the film tracks when the performance merits.

I also suspect that a grand vinyl boxset along the lines of the recent Led Zeppelin deluxe box sets and multi-album opera and symphony cycles from decades past could give us everything we want. It's just a question of degree, I'm sure you understand; and those who share our particular desire just might pay more than the 125-150 dollars this could concievably require. No point doing a project such as this without a hardbound volume of LP-sleeve sized art and essays. All of unsurpassable quality, or course.

Yet my fondest desire would be to commission Bruce Botnick to do a contemporary re-creation of the 1979 album mix. The Cloud edit and mix from the original album is still the one I prefer. Remixing that cue alone as a substitute for the film score version might be the cherry on this sundae.

Well then, maybe we need to introduce some new terminology into the language - you have opened the floodgates for the advent of the "Freudian snip."

You're insane. But in the nicest way.

Surely Leaving Drydock should be replaced with The Cloud. smile

Stephen, you read my mind. When MV mentioned Trek on vinyl, TMP was immediately thrust to the forefront of my mind. That boxset would be amazing and I'd pay MV to be a part of it.

"Last night I dreamt I went to Manderley again"

That's the FSM Manderley, not a visit to Mrs. Danvers.
