Advice please, I am visiting New York next month and was wondering if there are any record /CD stores that stock soundtracks that might be worth a visit?

Bleecker Street Records has a large selection of soundtrack records. Not many soundtracks on CD, though, and they're a bit pricey. I bought a used Herrmann record there in February and it was about $40.

Academy Records (W. 18th St.) and Rebel Rebel Records (on Bleecker St.) have a wide selection, too.

And these stores wonder why they go out of business as everyone moves online...

Yeah, fair point. I needed the vinyl as a last-minute gift for someone. Otherwise, I would have just used eBay or Amazon.

Lol, sorry, I just couldn't resist.

I'm just always surprised when someone asks about bricks and mortar stores these days. Sad as it is (and I used to frequent them regularly in the pre-internet days), I just can't see the relevance of them any more. Especially for lovers of more obscure, non-mainstream music. Not worth the effort visiting them when you know they won't stock what you want.

Academy Records on 18th, already mentioned in this thread, is the only brick and mortar store I've ever found used copies of Intrada, FSM, Prometheus, etc CDs. Small soundtrack section but some good finds there. And since the disappearance of Tower they are the best place to buy classical CDs or LPs in the city.

There is something satisfying about finding a store and trawling through its racks, you just never know what you might find. I have bought obscure titles in the past at knock down prices and find them the most enjoyable listening experience, you never know until you look.
I will make the effort to call in for a quick brows and see what I can find. Thanks all for the advice.

Completely agree. It never hurts to look.

Thrift shops are excellent when it comes to vinyl, too. I found a mint copy of Barry's THUNDERBALL that way. I think it was only 30 cents. Total steal. smile

I hope you find some interesting music if/when you check out those stores. Good luck!

I was watching an episode of Law and Order SVU (Season 2) last night and they shot a scene right in front of Footlight Records. I thought that was kinda cool.

I miss Footlight.
