The first 50 copies purchased directly from our online store will be autographed by the composer, Rob (offer limited to 1 autographed copy by customer). Ref: MBR-063 Release Date: in stock! In collaboration with Hamburger Records and La Petite Reine, Music Box Records presents the premiere CD release of the score for Maniac, the 2012 remake of the classic 1980 slasher film. With Lord of the Rings' Elijah Wood in the title role, this new Maniac retains the original’s horrific poetry as a penetrating, no-holds-barred delineation of the psychological intricacies of compulsive killer of women, conveyed in the first person. The film’s musical score is composed by Robin Coudert, a French electropop and rock instrumentalist who has gone by the professional name of Rob since his debut in 1998. Rob, who has been scoring films since 2005, conveys the nightmarish soul of the maniac, Frank Zito. The music, like the film, doesn’t excuse Frank’s raging violence, but Rob musically the tortured soul the lurks behind the killer’s haunted eyes. Rob reflects the flavor of Maniac’s 1980’s antecedent by creating a keyboard-based score built of rhythmic melodies and riffs created by 1980s era synthesizers. For this premiere release of Rob’s Maniac score on compact disc, Music Box Records has added five bonus tracks which did not appear on previous vinyl or digital releases. Some of them are early versions of the score’s primary motifs which afford a glimpse into Rob’s working process as he developed and finalized the Maniac score. The CD comes with an 8-page booklet featuring liner notes by Randall D. Larson who discusses the film’s conceptualizations and how Rob’s score helped create a thorough musical portrait of a disturbed, and very dangerous, psychotic maniac. The release is limited to 500 units. TRACK LISTING: 1. Doll (1:47) 2. Haunted (3:34) 3. Double Trouble (1:02) 4. Bells (2:45) 5. Haunted Piano (1:35) 6. Headache (3:54) 7. Floor Light (1:09) 8. Nice surprise on a Friday, and I'm digging this resurgence of 80's analog synth scoring in indie & horror films, I'm sure more than a few of my brothers here agree, yes? Absolutely!

Oh man, finally got this in & I am in analog synth heaven - you 80s electronic, sequence loving, John Carpenter, TD dudes, you know who you are, better get on this! Bloody fantastic, sad there's only 500 copies....it's really got the vibe of Chattaway's original score, updated with modern ideas, yet performed on great early synthesizers- follow me? Nice essay too, Randall, as always -Sean

I'm not a big fan 80's horror remakes (haven't even seen this one) so not sure why I opened this thread....but I'm sure glad I did! Those samples were fantastic! Definitely a must for fans of 80's synth scores or synth/electronic scores in general
